A cationic resin was prepared employing a toughness-enhanced epoxy resin as matrix and acrylic monomers as graft copolymer. The cathodic electrodeposition coating was obtained by self-emulsion process.Detailed research for reactive course of epoxy toughness-enhancing and acrylic monomers graft copolymerization was done. The dosage of polyproylene glycol, Bisphenol A, as well as their effect on the properties of film and resin was done. The results showed that the glossiness and flexibility of the film prepared by this coating were improved greatly contrasted with that of films prepared by those coatings using unmodificated epoxy as matrix. The measuring methods and tools such as FTIR, GPC, Laser particle & Zeta potential Analyzer have been used.
