Waterborne UV-curing systems have advantages of non-contamination, non-toxicity, non-skin irritation and safety of production, and become an attractive research and application areas of UV-curing systems. At present, alkyd, epoxy resin, polyurethane resin, acrylate and varieties of their modified resins are better domestic resins for waterborne coatings. The excellent properties of epoxy resin have attracted the attention of the scientist.In this paper a new multi-functional photo-initiator was synthesized form maleic anhydride and photo-initiator Irgacure, the produce was detected by UV, IR,MS. With the analysis and discussion of its photoinitiability, it was indicated that it had excellent photoinitiability.In the paper, the influenced factors such as the content of the photo-initiator and the amount of inhibitor and so on were confirmed by a series of orthogonal tests, and made out a best experimental method. In the preparation of UV-Curable waterborne epoxy resin coatings, the significance of reaction was indicated. And the paper discussed the effects of the new photo-initiator and the effects of photoinitiator on coating property also have discussed..UV-Curable waterborne epoxy resin coatings based on mid-molecular weight epoxy resin E-20, with GMA polymerization, which has good property, comparing to low-molecular weight epoxy resin. Simultaneity the emulsion and curving film both have good synthetical properties. Moreover the paper resolved the problem of mid-molecular weight epoxy resin modified with its significance.
