Mechanical manufacture enterprises are adopting information technology extensive and deeply at full direction with the pushing of information globalism and global information. Modern enterprise begin to take account of using the CAD/CAM systems at the same time invest facilities. thereby attain the aim of improving product design efficiency , processing quality and shortening production period. Owing to the specific characteristics of sheet metal in terms of design, spread, technology, manufacture, and so on, it need to take a step forward research and develop for sheet metal utility CAD/CAM systems. At the same time, the existing general CAD systems haven't the functions of digital sheet metal design resource, thereby, it affect the efficiency and the quality of sheet metal spread design that designers still query the datum, choose parameter, and make a copy of the results through the traditional paper tools.According to serious analysis and summary of handbook datum on sheet metal technology, the paper research sheet metal automatic spread CAD technology, remote design and manufacture system based on network by application of database and computer network technology. For second develop of AutoCAD drawing CAD system etc., using Delphi, VB serve as develop tools, the system achieves sheet metal automatic spread, remote design and manufacture, related resource sharing.The main achievements and creative ideas of the paper are as follows:(1) It is formulized that the special characteristic, application and development tendency of the CAD/CAM systems and of the sheet metal CAD/CAM systems. Based on the background, a new idea of digitization of traditional paper reference handbook on sheet metal is brought forward, and a digitization resource of sheet metal design and manufacture is provided.(2) It is analyzed classification of sheet metal. According to the sheet metal handbook and related literature, the utility sheet metal classification of sheet metal spread system isprovided. The developable method of developable surface and stagnant surface are analyzed. It is pointed out that the active utility developable method should be adopted at the spread of sheet metal.(3) After analyzing and comparing a few of spread lofting method, the utility sheet metal automatic spread CAD system is developed based on Delphi. Sheet metal spread numeration and drawing is individualize, numeration and calculating datum are accomplished at the numeration module, drawing, editing and chart file are accomplished at the drawing module. It is not only simplify the development difficulty degree of sheet metal CAD system, but also plot and manage chart very conveniently.(4) Aiming at feature of the latest software development technology, the basic conception of the object-oriented technology, software reuse, and database technology, and so on, are disserted, and theirs application effect in the development of the system is studied and verified.(5) The remote sheet metal design and manufacture system is developed. The system can provide remote datum query and sheet metal remote spread function at the network. The key technology used by system development are disserted, together with the key functions and specialties of the system are described by the example.
