With the comprehensive development of economical social and the progress of the modernization process, Scientific Outlook on Development put forward the coordinative urban-rural development and the slogan of building new social countryside, the rural development issues are also receiving increasing attention of all levels of society. The road is not only one of the most important infrastructures in the development of rural economic, but also the basic element of building new social countryside. Speeding up the development of rural roads has become an important factor to protect the coordinated development of the road networks, to promote the development of rural and the whole socio-economics and to ensure social stability. From the theory of GIS, this paper does a research on the problem of rural road alignment combining with the principles of road planning and designing. Systematically introduces the basic design principles and steps of road alignment, analyzes the affecting factors of the road alignments, clarifies the analysis of the alignment influencing factors in the alignment design, and summarizes and analyzes the methods, the advantages and disadvantages of general road alignment. Based on GIS, this paper researches on the new alignment of rural roads combining with theoretical methods of urban and rural road planning. Taking Xinyang village of Xiangtan county as an example, this paper takes factors into consideration, by selecting buildings, terrain and benefit population as three factors in road alignment. Using the functions of GIS spatial analysis, affecting factors are analyzed, transforming indirect suitability of its composition factors into alignment layer. The research uses expert scoring method, analytic hierarchy process to determine the suitability weights to generate alignment integrated multi-factor alignment suitability analysis chart, and determine the optimal path according to the suitability aided analysis with rural road construction specifications. This paper has had the feasibility and practical value, but still needs to be improved in the further study.
