Integrating the capability of multi-scale information processing is the natural trend of thedevelopment of geographic information system. The spatial analysis technology is the mostsignificant difference between GIS and other cartography system. Based on the national 863Hi-Tech program, a deeply study on spatial analysis technology in multi-scale GIS ispresented in this paper. Through anglicizing the characteristic of geographic data, a spatial database structurethat applicable to multi-scale GIS was proposed. Based on the spatial index commonly usedin traditional GIS, a new spatial access method was introduced into the spatial database forrapid querying geographic objects at multiple resolutions. For better visualization effect, amulti-scale buffer analysis technique that combines multi-scale crucial point detection andraster conversion buffer generating algorithm was presented, which can generate result bestfitted to current resolution. A self-organized topologic structure generating algorithm was alsoproposed to improve the performance of shortest path algorithm. Based on this algorithm, thetraditional network analysis algorithm can be efficiently conducted at difference resolution. The effectiveness of our algorithm was proved by experiments.
