Seriphidium species have characteristics of drought resistance, cold resistance and saline-alkaline resistance, mostly being xerophytes or strong xerophytes, have very important ecological significance, several species as livestock food in pastoral area, several species distribute on desert area as wind prevention and sand fixation plant. So systematic study on physiological and biochemical characteristics of metabolism of Seriphidium species has important significant for fully using and development Seriphidium species pant resources, animal husbandry development and combating desertification in arid and semi-arid areas. In this paper, Serphidium nitrosum,S.transiliense,S.sawanense,S.minchUnense,S.sublessingianum,S.borotalense,S.gracilescens,S.cinum and S.kasschgaricum nine Seriphidium species are for the experimental materials, which grew in the greenhouse with the same conditions, Studied on plant growth, physiological and biochemical characteristics and peroxidase isozyme of nine Seriphidium species; then S. gracilescens,S. transiliense and S. cinum were selected as the material in the study to research physiological responses under salt stress with different concentrations, and can be taken as reference indexes for the selection of salt-enduring cultivars. The results of this experiment shows that:1. Comparative studied on the protective enzyme system of nine Seriphidium species, and correlation analysis for these indexes and cluster analysis for the nine Seriphidium species, the results showed that the activities of POD and SOD, the contents of MDA, the ratio of chlorophylla/b and chlorophyll/carotenoid might be important indexes for estimation of the Seriphidium resistance; and the stronger resistance of the nine Seriphidium species according to the variety regulation of various indexes and cluster analysis are S. nitrosum,S. gracilescens and S. cinum, the strong resistance of the nine Seriphidium species are S. transiliense,S. sawanense and S. minchUnense; the weak resistance of the nine Seriphidium species are S. sublessingianum,S. borotalense and S. kasschgaricum2. Studied on the antioxidant capacity of S.gracilescens,S.transiliense and S.cinum under different salt concentrations, the results showed that these three Seriphidium species all adapt to a certain salt stress, but they showed interspecific differences, the salt resistance of S. gracilescens is stronger, according to the correlation analysis for these indexes, the activities of protective enzyme, the contents of MDA, soluble suger and soluble protein, the ratio of chlorophyll a/b and plant height might be important indexes for estimation of the Seriphidium salt resistance.3. Polyacrylamide Gel Electrophoresis (PAGE) was used to analyse the POD isozyme of 9 Seriphidium species, the results showed that there were 57 isozyme bands appeared in the tested materials, and the number of bands was different in species, the maximal isozyme bands number was 9 from S. sawanense, while the minimal number was 4 from S. kasschgaricum. The POD zymogram can be divided into two regions (A and B), the B region had more isozyme bands, and in this region the bands more concentrated and higher activity, the tested plants had obvious differences among the zymogram characteristics and species, the POD isozyme pattern and cluster figure were drawed up according to the distribution of different species'bands, and the result of cluster analysis was different from actual classification system.
