In recent years, GIS-T have become an increasing concern both at home and abroad and become a research hotspot. However, GIS technology in the field of transport planning in our country always remain in the pilot phase, the popularity of the application is not strong. The main reason is the respective professional restrictions in the transportation planning and GIS professionals. This paper is to explore how GIS technology used in transport planning, combining with internship experience, discuss the key technologies and propose some norms. The author expects to contribute to common development of transport planning and GIS.Based on the theory of transport planning and operation process, papers discuss three main aspects of the key technology of GIS applications in transport planning and related theoretical approaches. According to the author's practice and experience of GIS applications in transport planning, GIS technology will be grouped into three categories in this article: GIS database technology, GIS spatial analysis technology, GIS visualization technology. Data is the basis; Database technology is the background of GIS applications in transportation planning. GIS with the powerful ability of data acquisition, storage, management, analysis, and update, is consistent with requirements of transport planning on the database. In this section, the article in accordance with the characteristics of transport planning data, discuss different data models used in transport planning and data sharing, then based on Geodatabase establish a geographic data model for transport planning. Data needs analysis, only the data after the analysis can have significance. The most transport planning data have a spatial attribute, thus, transport planning need spatial analysis in many areas, GIS spatial analysis technology meet to the need. Authors set out the GIS spatial analysis tools commonly used in transportation planning from the Analysis Tools and Data Management Tools, and examples of GIS spatial analysis technology applied in the transportation planning. The outcome of transport planning often display in the way of text, thematic maps, statements, which GIS can make use of visualization technology to make it simple, fast and efficient. In this part papers mainly discus the GIS mapping technology commonly used in the transport planning: ArcMap integrated graphics, ArcScene three-dimensional display, ArcMap statistical mapping, statistical reports etc., and respectively show graphs. Chapter VI based on the descriptions of preceding chapters, and the ArcGIS VBA technology, call ArcGIS tools commonly used in transportation planning, customize a GIS personnel system for transport planning persons.
