With the expanding application of GIS in city planning, territory, transportation, resources configuration and other fields, data, the core of GIS, is faced with transformation. The traditional storage model of CAD for terrain data cannot meet the requirements of many fields. Therefore, it becomes an urgent matter for the data processing manufacturers to input CAD terrain data into GIS database.CAD data storage model stores the terrain data in file type. It's mainly used in architecture and mechanical engineering, focusing on dealing with geometric features. This data storage model can store attributes in extended modules, but the support of developers is needed for accessing the extended data. Another limit is that the maximum storage is only 16k. The data storage model based on ArcSDE can make full use of the RDBMS and achieving the storage of space data in RDBMS. At the same time, it makes the storing of space geometric data in topological relation become true.This thesis intends to transform the traditional DWG terrain data into Geodatabase data form that meets the requirements of GIS, involving the understanding and mutual transformation of DWG data and GIS data form, as well as the founding of GIS data dictionary. It also tries to realize the check-up of the semantic and geometric attributes of the terrain data in the process of data transformation. While constructing the new feature into the GeoDatabase, the property of the geometry and the attributes is used, which let the mutual data operation to be realized.In this thesis, The writer integrates the FME data translation technology, ArcSDE space database operation technology and GeoDatabase data storage model to build a framework for the storing of DWG terrain data in GeoDatabase. This thesis mainly solves the problem of data storage in the production of mapping data.After the obtaining of parsed data, for the sake of improving the efficiency of data input, the writer adopts the ArcSDE C API developing setting to input data, hence realizing the whole process of inputting DWG terrain data into GIS database. At the same time the mode of data input in this thesis is reversible in that the data in the database can be reversed into DWG data according to the requirement and without loss, assuring that the DWG storage model and GIS storage model can be mutually transformed. The experimental results show that the technical plan proposed here can satisfy the requirements of the data manufacturers to input DWG terrain data into database.
