As the rapid development of network and information technology, WebGIS has been a primary means to display,process and analyze the geo-spatial things and phenomena, and it has been one of important trends of GIS. Relying on the dual advantages of Web and GIS, It has been gradually applied to many fields and strongly demanded by .more and more areas at present. In the informationization process of agricultural, WebGIS is an important technological way to realize the modernization of agricultural production and management, and it will show further demand for WebGIS in digital agriculture.But at present, most WebGIS are all kinds of large commercialized WebGIS platforms. In spite of high performance and stable operation based on this kind of platform, the performance of software and hardware is required actually superior. This situation resulted in the enormous obstacles to popularize GIS. In the popular application, It is not rich function and comprehensive performance of commercialized platform but low-cost products and lightweight performance that is strongly demanded. In the informationization process of agriculture and digital agriculture, It is the proper way to use this kind of lightweight application.In such circumstances, in order to resolve the difficulties which GIS are facing with, a solution is proposed, which is to design lightweight GIS data engine and construct lightweight WebGIS. And according to the proposal, a soil testing and fertilization (formula fertilization by soil testing) management system is designed and realized, which is provided ademonstration for the application of lightweight GIS.With the advanced computation technology of .NET, which is a very popular development environment, two technical aspects are researched in the study. First, thelightweight GIS data engine------MyServer is designed from the bottom, and analyzing andreading the data of specific data formats, transforming the coordinate, mapping, rendering and releasing are realized, query of spatial attribute information is involved, simple spatial analysis function, for example, buffer zone analysis, is also realized. Second, displaying andbrowsing data control ------ServerMap used in the client is designed and completed.Depending on the two parts, the lightweight WebGIS system is setted up rapidly.After analyzing the feasibility of establishing a soil testing and fertilization management system in terms of technology and national support, according to the demand of soil test and fertilization to GIS, an construction program is proposed based on the lightweight data engine of WebGIS. Then depending on this proposal, Lantian County soil testing and fertilization management system is initially constructed. The results show that it can achieve the economic and practical goal gracefully and provide easy and useful WebGIS for the agricultural domain of soil testing and fertilization . Thus it has great significance in popularizing GIS.
