Variable rate fertilizing is one of the important techniques in precision agriculturetechnology system which can precisely determine the fertilizer of planting area based onspatial and temporal variability of soil. It can improve many problems in traditionalfertilization such as excessive fertilization、imbalance radio fertilization and lowutilization of fertilizer. Though variable rate fertilizing is a systematic project, manualcalculating can not be used because of heavy load and inefficiencies, we developed asystem to accomplish variable rate fertilization automatically which can make sure thetimeliness and accuracy.Farmers decentralized manage the cropland at present in china, they are shortage offunds and each cropland is very small. This paper presents a variable rate fertilizationsystem which is designed on the basis of Geographic Information System. This systemuse fertilization model to make decisions accuracy. In this premise, it can makefertilizing decisions and control fertilizing machine to match fertilizers for farmersautomatically to reduce the input of manpower and material resources.(1) The master-plan and design of variable rate fertilization system were analyzedto make sure the purpose principles and functions of system design. The functionstructure and overall structure were designed based on the meta-analysis.Systemdatabase solution includes spatial database engine and relational database, basicdatabase and nutrient balance model library were completed by the system databasesolution.(2) Soil nutrient information extraction was analyzed and Kriging was selected asthe interpolation method of the system. A function that allows automatically select theoptimum fitting model was achieved based on the analysis of the Kriging interpolationprinciple and effect. This paper formed a complete set of data processing flow for soilnutrient supplying amounts.(3) The modeling of variable fertilization was analyzed. First of all, variablefertilization model and its parameters were determined. Secondly, the variablefertilization model was structured by using meteorological conditions. After that, fertilizer effect function was structured by using genetic algorithm.Finnaly, Afertilization recommend process was designed based on the characteristic of fertilization.An expert knowledge base for variable rate fertilization which is based on towerstructure was built and reasonable reasoning mechanism was giver on this paper.(4) Development of variable rate fertilization system for dispersive farmers based onGIS. This paper developed a variable rate fertilization system by using SuperMapObject and C#language. This system obtain data source through coupling spatialdatabase and model parameter library. At the mean time, the system would providefertilizer amount for farmers based on variable rate fertilization model.
