This work mainly deals with parasitic flagellates from the intestine of the toad, Bufo gargarizans gargarizans and the gills of freshwater fish, Carassius auratus in Chongqing, China. In section 1, there are 8 species of flagellates submitted to 7 genera of Mastigophora Diesing, 1866 from the toad. They are Metanema ovula sp. nov., Petalomonas abscissa (Dujardin, 1841) Stein, 1859, Petalomonas minuta Hollande, 1942, Trichomitus batrachorum (Perty, 1852), Tritrichomonas augusta (Alexeieff, 1911), Dientamoeba fragilis Jepps & Dobeel, 1918, Hexamita intestinalis Dujardin, 1841, Chilomastix giganta, Nie, 1948. Of these eight species, Petalomonas abscissa, Trichomitus batrachorum and Chilomastix giganta is the first recorded in China; Dientamoeba fragilis can cause zoonosis. In section 2, diversity of Cryptobia concava (Davis, 1947) from the goldfish was described here, the histopathological study on the gills of godfish infested seriously by this species were also carried out. The result of our study indicates that while a heavy infestation with the ectoparasites can interfere with respiratory function of the gill which inserts or covers the epidermal tissue. The physical irritation and change of the epidermal tissue parasitized by the flagellates, together with the inflammatory response of the host, inevitably cause respiratory impairment. So a heavy parasitic infestation of the gills may prevent respiration and death of the host may occur as a result. The research work is aimed to provide some basic reference data for investigating pathogeny and healthy culture.
