The Mongolians in Ordos Plateau have accumulated abundant knowledge and experience on the use of wild edible plants during the long-term living practice. It involves wild plants which are used as vegetables, fruits, seasoning, tea, grains and dietotherapy.Wild edible plant folk names of the Mongolians in Ordos Plateau have own structure, types and methods of plant nomenclature. More than 78 folk names are corresponding to 58 wild edible plant species. Plant folk names have obviously scientific feature and practicality.Wild edible plants of the Mongolians in Ordos Plateau include 18 species as vegetables, 21 species as fruits, 6 species as seasoning, 6 species as tea, 12 species as grains and 14 species for dietotherapy. Among all of them, Allium mongolicum, Pugionium cornutum, Sonchus arvensis, Sonchus oleraceus, Taraxacum mongolicum are the mostly used wild vegetables; Elaeagnus angustifolia, Cynanchum thesioides and Hippophae rhamnoides are made use of as wild fruits at most, and widestly used plants for grains contain Agriophyllum pungens and Artemisia sphaerocephala. In addition, the vegetale use of Mulgedium tataricum and the edible fruits use of Asparagus gobicus, Iris tenuifolia, medicinal use of Allium mongolicum, Mulgedium tataricum and Prinsepia uniflora, and tea substitute use of Potentilla anserin, Potentilla bifurca and Mulgedium tataricum are belong to latest records.Traditional knowledge on wild edible plants of the Mongolians in Ordos Plateau has substantial contents of rationality, practicality and conservation value.
