Study On Wetland Types And Their Distribution In Fujian Based On 3S Technologies

With the wetlands in the whole province under study, the paper submits a classification system for Fujian wetlands and discusses the wetland types and their Spatio-temporal Changes.Firstly, Based on fieldwork throughout the province, the study begins with gaining knowledge of the wetland types and their distribution, and making maps of wetlands of different times with the help of 3S technologies.Secondly, after summarizing the study on wetland classification by scholars from home and abroad, in accordance with Lamsar Convention and the national wetland classification and in view of local wetland features, a classification system for wetlands in Fujian province is proposed, which recognizes 3 broad groups of wetlands: Seashore wetlands, inland wetland and artificial wetlands. All the broad groups are subdivided into different types.Thirdly, the various wetland types are described and analysised. It is indicated that the wetland types in Fujian are diversified. Seashore wetlands are important with respect to their total area and many of them are of great ecologic value. Inland wetlands mainly consist of lakes and rivers. Some mountain wetlands are found in recent years,which are of great importance. There is a abundance of artificial wetland in Fujian, most of which are widely-distributed paddy fields.Lastly, the paper studies the influential factor in wetland distribution, the characteristics of horizontal distribution and vertical distribution of wetlands, and the trends of wetland distribution in different areas over the nearly twenty years past. It is pointed out that wetland distribution closely relates to landforms and that the total area of natural wetlands are decreasing due to man-made interference, especially in the south of Fujian.
