Yuanshui River flows across the western region of Hunan province where minorities inhabit centrally with economies less developed. The whole watershed locates subtropical monsoon climate zones, has abundant precipitation, and season change obviously. It appears to be a main area for the development of geological hazards in the province due to the specialties of the regional geological conditions and socio-economic development background. The annual economic losses caused by geological hazards are very serious. At present, study on geological hazards of Yuanshui watershed in terms of watershed is blank. The study statistics rockslides, landslides, mud-rock flows and analysis the question of geological hazards of Yuanshui watershed in Hunan. According to the field investigation, select three representative samples of geological hazards dangers, summary the formation factors of geological hazards. This study approaches the development processes of geological hazards from viewpoints of physical actions and anthropogenic activities, based on understanding the growth characters of geological hazard. The major hazard-caused factors including atmospheric rain fall, topographical features and anthropogenic, activities, are considered for understanding the relation to the development of hazards using Gray correlation theories. The study shows that the above three correlation factors are 0. 8557,0. 6525 and 0. 6183 respectively. Therefore, the regularities regarding the formation and development processes of geological hazards occurring in the area are summarized. Meanwhile, use fuzzy comprehensive evaluation analysis 128 rockslides and a mud-rock flow as potential danger places. The results indicated that most of places are in stable condition, some are instability. It suggests that adopt measures and keep watch additionally in order to reduce economic losses of geology hazard minimally. At last, the study use fuzzy clustering analysis the geological hazards divisions. There are 23 counties of Yuanshui watershed in Hunan which will be divided to four sections: a highly probable area, 20 mid-probable areas, a lowly probable area and a not probable area. According to comprehensive planning and scientific treatment, perfect system and strengthen management, control population increase and improve the health of the people, provide measures to prevent and reduce geological hazards. The study can provide basement for making strategy of hazard protection and reduction, on the other hand, it can make a reference for minimizing economic losses to keep sustainable development in the area of HuaiHua, XiangXi and ChangDe.
