The present paper deals with the family Sepsidae from China, a small family of acalyptrate flies. The paper is divided into six parts: introduction, systematic history, biology, morphology, material and methods, and taxonomy. The taxonomy, and faunistics of all the Chinese species are revised. Keys are given to generic level for adults, and to species for genera and species. The distribution and biology of the Chinese species is summarized, and also of other characters of diagnostic importance for adult stages. Finally, based on the examination of over 1500 specimens from 15 provinces, Liaoning, Henan Shaanxi, Yunnan, Sichuan etc.from China.A total of 40 species representing 10 genera is described. Among them, 2 species are described as new to science and 20 new recorded species are redescribed. In summarize, the research history of taxonomy and phylogeny, biology and economic importance on the Sepsidae are reviewed; the taxonomic characters are outlined; the higher classification and phylogeny in the whole order and the family are briefly reviewed. The keys are presented to facilitate the identification of the taxonomic taxa, including genera and species.1. New species:1. Australosepsis pseudofrontalis, n. sp.2. Sepsis bubanga, n. sp.2.
