Landslide is a very serious geological disaster, which occurs in our country and many other countries frequently. It has been threatening the normal production and life of the people. Study on hazard evaluation of landslide gradually beco(?)es one of the most concerned issues; the main method of such evaluation is based on the collection, analyses and process of fundamental geological data, with the application of appropriate mathematical model, dividing the corresponding hazard into different levels, and then partition hazard the researching zone as a whole by the corresponding hazard levels.In recent years, geographic Information System(GIS) resulted in widespread attention for the strong spatial analysis and spatial data management functions it is performing in landslide hazard study. Practice has proven that GIS is well suitable to solve many problems in the study on landslide, such as historic record of landslide, landslide space-time sequence analysis, the spatial correlation analysis between the occurrence of landslide and static & dynamic environmental elements (such as rainstorms, earthquake), landslide disaster hazard evaluation and so on. It has to some extent, supplemented to some existing shortcomings from traditional landslide hazard evaluation methods, such as subjectivity and heavy workload.In this paper, the method of GIS, with the combination of well-developed information value model has been applied, and Zhenjiang urban as sample region has been adopted, the landslide hazard evaluation is studied herein with the goal of protecting people's life and property from the disaster caused landslide. The following aspects are mainly included in the study:(1) This paper establishes landslide spatial databases of sample region, including impact factor of landslide databases, databases of landslide spatial distribution and analyses the susceptibility of landslide impact factor based on the spatial database.(2) This paper sets up a more integrated approach system and workflow of medium geological scale landslide hazard evaluation study based on GIS, on the base of in-depth analysis of existing landslide hazard evaluation theory and application, and attempts to provide reference for similar studies using GIS in the future.(3) This paper identifies the key factor of landslide disasters in Zhenjiang urban, and the effect extent of landslide occurrence factors are examined through superposition statistical analysis.(4) This paper draws up a zonation map of landslide hazard in Zhenjiang urban and identifies super-high risk, high risk, medium risk and low risk areas of the spatial distribution of landslide disasters according to results of analysis and evaluation.
