The urbanization is the leading process which the regional land use evolvement, the urban extension or the urbanization may be regarded as the mutual transforming result of the microcosmic different land utilizing type. China is undergoing rapid changes to the urban society's process presently. The previous 50 years of this century will be the high speed developing stage of Chinese urbanization. We will encounter many complex economic and social problems in the urbanization process, so it is necessary to research the rules of urban extension and land use evolvement.This article takes the complex system theory as research background, the Geo-Spatial system as research object, the extended cellular automata as model method, through the particular comprehension and analysis of Cellular Automata, then uses extended CA model(GeoCA-Urban) loose coupled with GIS, simulates and predicts the land use evolvement of LongGang district in Shenzhen. Furthermore, complying with the actual data and evolution situation, it analyses the effective factor of the land use layout and driving factor of the land use change of LongGang district, explores the feature and the rule of urban dynamic development of LongGang district. Based on these, this paper offers decision-making support for the urban planning and development in future. The article is divided into six parts altogether.The first part is introduction; it briefly introduces the background of the problem, the research situation at home and abroad, the research goal and significance as well as the main research content and method.The second part is Cellular Automata rationale. It introduces the concept, the history, the composition, the characteristic and the application of Cellular Automata, as well as the superiority and insufficiency in geography application, also introduces the structure and the implementation step of Extended Cellular Automata Model (GeoCA-Urban). The third part is simulation on the land use evolvement of rapid urbanization based on GIS and Extended CA. It introduces the concept of the urbanization and the urban land, the conception, characteristic and the research technique of the land use evolvement, and the entity frame of the urban land use evolvement simulating based on GIS and Extended CA.The fourth part is the urbanization process and the driving factor research. It introduces the urbanization process of LongGang district, the land using situation, the storage quantity analysis and the potential analysis of LongGang district, as well as the land use driving factor of LongGang district.The fifth part is case analysis. We looses coupling the GeoCA-Urban model with GIS, takes LongGang district as the research region, simulates the land use changes in two time intervals, and analyzes the research result deeply.The sixth part is the summary and the forecast.
