The virtual instrument is computer-based equipments, and also is the combination of computer and instrument. It is an important direction of instrument developing. Measurement and controlling of the drilling process is improving efficiency and safety of drilling. This paper describes the application of virtual instrumentation in the project which is named Research of Measurement and Controlling of Drilling Process.The drilling instrument is a major application to monitor and analyze the drilling process, which makes drilling safer and more rational. As the large demand of oil and gas and the development of geological prospecting, the drilling workload increases annually. The instruments of monitoring and controlling drilling parameters are put forward higher requirements. The development of science and technology, especially electronic technology, computer technology progresses the development of drilling process monitoring systems. These days, the drilling instruments are changing from mechanical, hydraulic meters to digital, integrated, intelligent and networklized.Firstly, this paper analyzes the development of domestic monitoring and controlling drilling process system, references to international advanced level. Monitoring and controlling drilling process system for an in-depth theoretical analysis, and on the basis, research and develops of a high precision, multifunctional and easy to operate, reliable performance, friendly interface for real-time monitoring and controlling system by using of LabVIEW.The system combines the CD-2B core rig , using TCP data acquisition system. It can real-timely monitor the drilling pressure and pump pressure, spindle speed, drilling speed, pump flow, and index parameters such as spindle torque, and use the inverter to control spindle speed by computer feedback.The system takes full advantage of the latest technology, makes drilling monitoring and controlling technology to a new level, and provides a good foundation for the next step of carrying out the research and development of automation rig.
