Automatically monitoring and controlling technology in drilling process is one key technology to achieve automation of drilling equipment. It is necessary means to ensure safe, high quality, fast, efficient and scientific drilling.Aim to promote domestic core drilling to further development of automation and intelligent direction, based on a large number of references, this article indicates the problems of development of domestic drilling technology and equipment; it describes the development status and trends of domestic and international automated drilling rig, the status of automated monitoring technology development is also addressed. It points out the gap between domestic automatic core drilling development and that of abroad. New technology and methods of automatically monitoring and controlling system design in the drilling process are founded which are used for enhancing the automation level of drilling equipment.With the National Science Laboratory of XY-4 drilling vertical core drilling in this system, A set of more integrated design proposal of core drill automatic control system was Proposed, sensors and actuators were selected or manufactured, used virtual instrument software LabVIEW with graphical programming tools and DSC module combined with OPC technology, and develop the system software of computer data acquisition and supervisory control in the drilling process. The design of software adopted modular form, the key parameters of drilling such as bit pressure, pump pressure, pump volume, rotational speed, drilling speed, and so on, can be online and realtime monitored in the process of drilling, and the accurate automatic controlling of bit pressure, rotational speed and pump volume can be achieved; meanwhile the primary abnormal condition such as Drill rod breaking-off, lost circulation, burning bit, bit freezing, bit polished and so on can be automatically discriminated. This system enhances drilling rig automation; make intelligent innovation objectives of the drilling process available.
