J2EE is an important framework to utilize WebGIS and the design and implementation of J2EE-based distributed WebGIS system has become a hotspot in GIS field. With the expansive application of WebGIS, the study on CATV WebGIS receives a growing concern. However, there are a lot of difficulties in CATV management because of the complexity of resources, data and network architecture. J2EE-based distributed WebGIS system could provide a good solution to realize spatial visualization management of CATV network resources.Based on the analysis of the status quo and development of WebGIS technologies, aiming at the characteristics of CATV, the design and implementation of CATV WebGIS system is emphasized in this dissertation. The theories, methods and implementation techniques of WebGIS are discussed. The technologies of spatial database engine are presented, and the J2EE framework for designing a distributed system is analyzed as well. After that, a practical CATV WebGIS system using four-tier distributed architecture under J2EE framework is designed and realized combined with the spatial database engine technology--ArcSDE. According to J2EE technical specification, using technologies of Web and open-source frameworks, a solution is proposed for critical technologies in CATV business, which includes WebService-based multi-source data district management, VML-based client graphic editing and network-analysis-based CATV maintenance and so on.The four-tier CATV WebGIS system based on J2EE framework has been proved to be a successful application in the project of CATV geographic information systems of Radio and Television Broadcasting Bureau in Jiangshan, Zhejiang Province. The system seamlessly integrates the MIS for broadcasting business, which could efficiently realizes the Internet spatial visualization management of CATV network resources, such as the users, equipments and lines. It indicates that the four-tier CATV WebGIS based on J2EE framework is of good scalability and practicality. The research also has certain significance of reference to the development of other WebGIS systems.
