With the development of computer graphics, simulation of the plant structures which using the theory of the computer graphics has become a subject of study in various areas. But judging by the present situation, the vast majority of plant simulation based on computer graphics, which did not consider environmental factors on plants growth process. In this paper, we research the impact of environmental factors on the process of the plants growth。First of all, we introduce the trends and the research of virtual plants, and a method of plants simulation, the theory of fractal and L-system. In essence, L-system is a rewriting mechanism, which solves the geometry modeling of complex structure, whose modeling process is acquired by recursive initiator and generator. It includes determining L system, random L-system, parameteric L-system, context L-system, etc. Based on above theories, some typical plants(tree and herbage)are modeled by cpfg modeling language on the L-Studio, including the ramify angles, growth height, the thickness of limb, and the shape of leaves. For more plants growth, we research the impact on L-system by environmental factors ,improve on L-system,simulate the competition of the space on the process of plant growth, and also simulate the process of plant growth in the state of competition or not.In this paper, we research the impact of the process of growth plants by some of the environmental factors, but in the nature, as plant organisms, its structural mechanism, the process of growth and interaction with the environment is fairly complex. Using computer to simulate plants growth involves many disciplines. Simulation of the plant structures will be an aspect of the research of plant simulation with great value.
