The natural conservation area of Zhalong is an ecosystem of wetland which is preserved most entirely and primordially in the northern of China, and it plays an important role in supplying water resource, controlling flood, purifying water quality, regulating weather and protecting the biodiversity. Applications of the techniques such as RS (Remote Sensing), GIS(Geographic Information Systems) provide efficient methods for wetland information retrieval and management. As a method of data update for GIS, RS provides a lot of space-time data. However, the traditional GIS and its spatial data model have disadvantages and limitation in management of multi-period data. TGIS (Temporal Geographic Information System) is a kind of GIS for storing and manipulating the information of geographic phenomenon along time. To provide effective measures and advanced scientific management for Zhalong Wetland, a kind of TGIS is designed and developed in this paper. Spatio-temporal data model and database are the core of the TGIS. Supported by Geodatabase, a spatio-temporal data model based on Feature-version is designed in this study. The model decreases the storage space, keeps the integrity of geographic phenomenon. Based on the data model, combining ArcSDE with RDBMS technology, the spatio-temporal database for Zhalong Wetland is built by using RS image as data source. The database ensures the integrative storage of multi-period spatial data and attributes data. By using Com-GIS, the framework of the Zhalong Wetland TGIS is designed and developed in detail. The system includes assistant management module, common GIS module, temporal GIS module and report forms module. The system has advantages especially in history rebuilding, dynamics playing, space-time querying, tracking and multi-period feature comparing. Zhalong Wetland TGIS effectively accomplishes the missions of wetland rebuilding, history tracking, statistic analyzing, and provides the feasible solution for the scientific management of Zhalong Wetland environment and resource.
