| Water is the important natural resources of people's existence, and it also is the material condition that agriculture and industry depend on for development. With the continuously increasing in regional economy and productivity, the water requirement is raising rapidly. The groundwater exploitation is growing with years to eke out the lack of surface water. Unrestrained exploitation of groundwater has caused a series of problems, such as water resources shortages, water pollution, land subsidence, environmental deterioration, etc.Nowadays, all nations are concerned about the sustainable development of them. The sustained use of groundwater is a basic support for the long-term economic and social progress.As the recharge resources, the natural resource of groundwater is quite important for the groundwater-sustained utilization to supply water steadily. The natural resources assessment of groundwater is prerequisite for the sustained exploitation and management of groundwater resources. And it provides the scientific foundation to satisfy the needs for the water supply present and to come.Assessing the natural resources of groundwater manually is a great deal and ineffective of work. Instead of the traditional method, GIS offer a new technology to manage, analyze, and display the data of the natural resources assessment. And, moreover, COMGIS is an effective ways to integrate GIS with the assessment models of the groundwater natural resources.For this the author have put forward an idea about the general construction and the database structure of the Groundwater Natural Resources Evaluation System based on GIS.On the basis of ArcGIS platform, the system was developed with Visual Basic 6.0 and ArcGIS Engine. The system realizes a structural integration of groundwater natural resources assessment models and GIS. It provides a technical platform for the integration and visualization of groundwater natural resources assessment.The author established a spatial database, which the information was gathered from Guanzhong basin. And then, using the system to stores, manages, indexes, and analyzes the information. Further, to calculate the resources supplying, egesting, and capacity of change about groundwater in Guanzhong basin.
