Along with the development of social economy, more and more high-criterion ways build to red madstone and sandstone ("redbeds" for short thereinafter) distribution in recent years, there appear many problems in the course of investigating, designing and constructing. The geological and engineering character and build embankment behavior stand in the breach. Because of the special character as collapse and be soften when encounter water, shrink and appear interstice when lose water, and the intensity itself is low, etc. its deformation mechanism is complex. At present, the estimate of the build behavior character is qualitative, and there is little about systemic quantificational study of it.There are two main problems of redbeds embankment, they are deformation and long-term behavior. In this paper, the author studyed the redbeds of Suining group and Shaximiao group of Jurassic at SUINING and HECHUAN in the center of SICHUAN basin. In the course of researching, the author get the chemical elements and the mineral components of redbeds by experiments, and acquired the penetrability, compressibility and collapse behavior, anasysed the influential factors and the influence mechanism detailedly. This thesis researched the variety of intensity of the redbeds material vs its grain grade, water content, compaction degree, anasysed the influential form and the mechanism of the three indexes. Then the author used the experimental parameters by numerical methods, anasysed the stability of embankment slopes and calculate the displacements, anasysed combined with the observation. At last, the author anasysed the capability of exluding water and resisting weathering, expatiated the feasibility and the reliability of redbeds embankment.
