The Use Of GIS In Campus Environment Navigation Systems

Recently, many universities unite together one after the other along with the reformation of national higher education in management system so that there are many districts in one university and also much inconvenience of student teaching and management. At the same time, it's hard to carry out efficient management using normal methods when the area of a university is large, the buildings is many and the pipe network of overground or underground, water and information are all cross-link.Besides the general information of city buildings, the campus information also concludes the student information and correlative things about using buildings so that it not only deals with the management of map entity but also the users. Geographical information system can not only manage and analysis the spatial or not spatial information on the unitive flat but also exploit all kinds of application module which provide decision and analyses for campus development planning, resource optimal collocation and emergency disposal based on geographical spatial data and special spatial analysis methods.This paper presents the campus environment navigation system of DUT based on GIS regarding the abuse of earlier navigation system. The system is developed with technique system composed of SuperMap which is an component software and the Visual Basic6.0 which is a visual programmed tool of Object Oriented. It has the capability of spatial inquire of GIS, spatial analysis and statistic analysis, etc. The design of system interface uses the common menu and toolbar to drive the assignment and takes the isomerous flat and intelligent function kernel as an unit into the customized interface so that it could make the special knowledge and concept of GIS fuzzy to convenient the users.The paper introduces the collection of spatial data, the foundation of spatial model, the design of system database, function analysis of system details and pivotal techniques which are come down to the system developing process(such as ComGIS, ADO, etc).The development of campus environment navigation system which not only offer the remarkable advantages over the conventional management mode in assistant leading decision and improvement of management efficiency but also provides students and campus visitor the timely and veracious information settle base for the university to set up scientific, intelligent and network integrative campus management system in subsequent.
