China with the whole world together is paying much attaition to the protection of biodiversity. Biodiversity is the basic to which we are living; we must go deep into it when we faced the difficulties in the protection of some rare, endangered and valuable animals and plants. We have surveyed the plant species diversity and their vertical distribution parterns in Foping National Nature Reserve; according to the field data we had got, we have also compared the plant species diversity and their vertical distribution parterns in Foping National Nature Reserve with that of Changqing National Nature Reserve, the two Reserves both are habitats of giant pandas in Qinling Mt. The studies showed that: 1. In Foping National Nature Reserve, with the rising of the elevation, the basic trend of the changes of the species number of herbs is droped while waving; 2.With the rising of the elevation, the basic trend of the changes of species number of shrubs is also droped while waving; 3. But with the rising of the elevation, the basic trend of the changes of species number of arbors is rising; 4. Because of this reasons and the heterogeneity of the natural conditions in the reserve, we did not find the orderliness exist in the whole plant species. According to the field data we had got, the species diversity and their vertical distributions parterns are verydifferent between the two reserves: 1. There are more plant species in Changqing where was badly deforested from 1967-1993 than that of in Foping where has been well protected since 1978, and most of them are heliophilous species. Most species that distribute only in Foping are sciophilic. 2. The vertical distributing range of most species in Changqing is much wider than that of Foping. Based on the present studies, we considered that there is the possibility that the vanguard species in Changqing and the shade enduring species in foping and their vertical distribution patterns might be used as the indicators in the monitoring of the giat panda's habitat in Mt. Qinling.
