A new national mathematics curriculum in the elementary education, experimented in 38 areas in 27 provinces and municipalities directly under the Central Government in 2001,will be implemented all over the country in 2005.A great change has taken place in the new mathematics curriculum, which lies in the ideal of the education, content of the curriculum, style in learning and teaching, teaching management and assessment, thus a lot of new requirements, which are hardly to be realized after being studied in the contemporary mathematics education in normal colleges and universities, have been put forward for the mathematics teachers in the High Schools in implementing the new mathematics curriculum. Therefore the mathematics education in normal colleges and universities aiming to train the mathematics teachers for High School begin to be confronted with the new challenges mainly from the ideal of the education, content of the curriculum, style in teaching and learning, teaching management and assessment.To take effective measures to meet these challenges for the education in normal colleges and universities can not only make sure of smoothly implementing the new mathematics curriculum, but also help itselfdevelopment. To meet the above challenges, the following strategies should be taken: to transform the education ideal based on development and reinforce education of emotion, attitude and outlook on valuation to the colleges and universities students; to adjust the curricular content and set up appropriate system; to change the traditional instructional and learning styles; to reform the teaching management and better the students assessment system.
