This paper is one of the important components of the project" The sustained development on the Yellow River drainage basin between humans and environment". The author applies GIS and RS technology to the study on the wetland along the Yellow River in Henan province in order to make it scientific management ,effective protection and sustainable exploitage. Based on the Landsat5 TM and Landsat7 ETM imagine and the characteristics of the study area, the interpretation symbols are established and the maps of the wetland resources in 1987 and 2002 are made. By using the indexes of the landscape pattern: landscape diversity index, landscape dominance index, landscape fragmentation index, distribution centroid and extended dimension, the thesis presents the dynamic change of wetland spatial pattern from 1987 to 2002.The thesis is discussed from the following parts:Part 1: Preface, the summary of the wetland study background and the wetland landscape pattern change study in home and overseas.Part 2: The general situation of study area, including its position, range, natural condition and society-economy situation are narrated.Part 3: This part is the base of the theory used in the thesis. We mainly introduce the based theory in studying the wetland landscape pattern change.Part 4: The information and study route are narrated briefly in this part;Part 5: In this part, we mainly talk about the classification of the wetland and set forth the processes of dealing with the remote sensing images.Part 6: The models of the wetland landscape pattern change are identified.Part 7: This content is the main part of the thesis. By using these models, wetland landscape pattern and change along the Yellow River in Henan Province in 1987 and 2002 are analyzed.Finally, the conclusions of the thesis are made.The results showed that, (1) the total area of the wetland reduces dramatically compared to 1987, the total area of wetland reduces by 19.18%, the number of the patches in 2002 increases by 21.17%, the density increases by 50%, the total perimeter increases by 1290491m. (2) Disturbed by human activities, landscape diversity index decreases from 1.1740 in 1987 to 0.9803 in 2002.While landscape dominance index increases from 0.4355 to 0.6291 from 1987 to 2002 and landscape fragmentation index increases fromO.0141 to 0.0172 which means that the shape of wetland was much irregular. (3) During the last 20 years, the total area the Rice wetland increases, while the others decrease. Among those, the area of the bulrush wetland decreases most. In 1987, it takes 0.5% of the total area, but in 2002,it only takes 0.11%. In short, the impacts of human activities on the spatial pattern of the wetland landscape along the Yellow-River in Henan province from 1987 to 2002 are large.
