By using GIS RS and GPS technology to study the landscape pattern change of the Yellow River basin in west Henan province in order to make it scientific management, effective protection and sustainable exploitage.Based on the RS imagine (Landsat5 TM and Lanfsat7 ETM imagine)and the land use and land cover data and GPS point data and the characteristics of the study area, the interpretation symbols are established and the maps of the landscape types distributing in 1987,1995 and 2000 are made. By using the indexes of the landscape pattern: landscape diversity index, landscape dominance index, landscape fragmentation index, distribution centroid and extended dimension, the thesis presents the dynamic change from 1987 to 2000 and analyse the driver of landscape pattern change and ecological effects of landscape change in study area..This paper consists of 6 segments:Part 1:Preface,introduce the conception of sight, landscape ecology and 3S technology and the summary of the landscape pattern change study in home and overseas.Part 2: The general situation of study area, including its position, range, natual condition and society-economy situation are narratedPart 3:This content is the one of the main parts of the thesis.After the interpretation of the landscape type in study area,by using the models of the landscape pattern change,this paper analyses the landscape pattern in study area in 1987,1995 and 2000,and the landscape pattern change in 15 yearsPart 4:Basis of the content of the part 3, the drivers of the landscape pattern change are discussed.Part 5: The ecological effects of landscape pattern change in study area are analysed, especially,the effects for climate and the runoff of the rivers in study area.Part 6:The conclusions of the thesis are made.Conclusion: (1) The terrain factor played the key role in the formation process of the landscape pattern in the area.The landscape pattern has orderliness obviously in the horizontal direction as well as the vertical direction in study area. In the eastern parttake the agricultural landscape as the main landscape type, but in west mountain area mainly is distributed by forest landscape type. (2) The artificial factors is most important effect factors for the landscape pattern changes in the short period, especially inthe ecological environment frail west mountain area. (3) And the landscape pattern changes have also affected ecological environment and climatic change in study area.
