| Wetland structure, ecological functions and system stability are the most important aspects of the wetland study. The assessments and studies to them are the important basis of the works of wetland protection, exploitation and wetland entironment restoration.By making use of the 3S technology, the actualities of Honghu wetland configuration and wetland type were investigated in this paper. Then, the landscape patterns of Honghu wetland were analyzed. The dynamic changes of wetland configuration from 1950s were expressed in a quantitative way. The main reasons to the dynamic changes were alao studied in this paper.On the basis of former analysis, the four aspects of Honghu wetland ecologic functions were assessed with the spot investigation and statistic data. At the same time, TIN model was built to analyze the sluice function of wetland area. From the two aspects that temperature effect and precipitation effect, the climate modulation function of Honghu wetland was demonstrated. The purification function of wetland was explained through the analysis of the data of water quality. The wetland function of keeping biodiversity was also shown by the statistic data of the species in this paper.Then, according to the study of wetland ecological functions, the indexs to the stability of wetland system was established. Through the analysis of these indexes using a method of APH (Analytic Hierarchy Process), the compositor, the relative importance of the indexes and the degree of system stability was calculated. Afterwards, it was turned out that the stability degree is medium, and the factors worked on the system stability could be arranged in an ordinal order as follows: policy, water quality, calamity coefficient of drought and waterlogging, wetland landscape patterns, the sluice function of wetland, the format of using lands, and others.At the end of this paper, some advices about the wetland protection and management was put forward based on the previous analysis.
