Information System Of The Rare And Endangered Plants In Sichuan Province

Biodiversity conversation is an international hot topic, which has been carried out thoroughly by governments all over the world. Because of the protection of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and mountains around the Sichuan Basin, Sichuan Province suffered less from glacier during the Forth Epoch, thus many relic plant species were kept there. Sichuan is the main province in the course of Developing Western China, so the protection of these rare and endangered plants is our urgent task.In the present paper, on the basis of other autroritative publications and the field investigation of the author, the detailed information concerning the classification, distribution and conservation etc, of rare and endangered plants distributing in Sichuan are clearly presented. It also analysed their floristic and geographic distribution and the protection status of them, then put forward some proposals for protection. Furthermore we established an information system mainly by ASP and SQL Server, in which the information of the species can be searched conveniently. And the information system was written on CDs can be used through internet.The conclusions can be dawn as follows:1. Based on Red List of Plants in China and List of National Protected Wild Plants, there are totally 94 rare and endangered plant species in Sichuan, which belong to 77 genera of 49 families. Among them , 11 species of 10 genera in 9 families are pteridophyta, 23 species of 15 genera in 7 families are gymnosperm, and 60 species of 52 genera in 33 families are angiosperm.2. The mainly growthtype of the rare and endangered plants is tall trees, which make up 60% of the total.3. The compositions of the rare and endangered plants in Sichuan are complex. There are many endemic and relic plant species and genera, in which there are 21 genera endemic to China, 4 species in families of single specie, nearly 20 species in genera of single species and about 30 species of relic pterdophyta and gymnosperm.4. The rare and endangered plants in Sichuan distributed densely in Liangshanprefecture, Leshan city and Ya'an region. In the scope of the three regions, the Emeishan, Tianquan and Baoxing counties are the distribution center.5. Chongqing municipality, Yunnan and Guizhou provinces have more rare and endangered plants in common with Sichuan.6. The statistics on the distribution patterns of the 76 genera seed plants is that there are 1 genus of cosmopolitan pattern, 5 genera of tropic pattern and 51 genera of temperate pattern. In the last pattern, there are 17 genera which are endemic to China. The statistics shows that the temperate distribution pattern acts as a leading role, and the species endemic to China is also abundant.7. The area of Nature Reserves in Sichuan doesn't reach the country's average level, and the Nature Reserves isn't set up enough in the region where rare and endangered plants are rich. The scale and the equipment in the plant gardens in Sichuan is very backward.8. We establish the information system of the rare and endangered plants in Sichuan which has many functions such as information searching and information administrate. The information system is composed of six parts, which includes the information searching system, administrate system, protection status, floristic analysis, about us and related links. The 'information searching system' part is formed by two sub-systems which are the comprehensive information searching system and the specimen searching system. In the former one, we can search by species classification information, protection class and distribution area etc. The searching results will show the information of protection value, detailed distribution area, many photos of the plants, etc. In the latter sub-system, we can search by species classification information, specimen collection information and the nebarium information.
