The characteristic of calling songs of katydids and crickets is stable, which occupies the specificity with species. In this paper, the characteristic of male calling songs of 11 species of katydids and 11 species of crickets from Hebei Province are analyzed, the patten of male calling songs in a day and night of 8 species of katydids and 7 species of crickets are compared, the stridulatory apparatus structure of 7 species of katydids and 8 species of crickets are studied. The study indicates the conclusions as follows:1. The rate of chirp, the rate of pulse, the frequency of hightest power peak of the calling songs of katydids usually higher; the change of day and night patten of male calling songs of most katydids is unobvious; the differentiation of katydids male stridulatory file is remarkable, there are obvious differences in the shape of stridulatory teeth in different spot on katydids male stridulatory file, the number of stridulatory teeth of katydids usually fewer.2. The energy of calling songs of crickets usually concentrates in a relatively narrow frequency range; the change of day and night patten of male calling songs of most crickets is obvious; the shape of crickets male stridulatory file is relatively simple, arrangement of stridulatory teeth is regular, shape of stridulatory teeth in different spot is similar, number of stridulatory teeth usually more.3. In the katydids and crickets among differenct species of identical genus, the male of calling songs duration, the rate of chirp, the rate of pulse and the frequency of hightest power peak show observable differences; the day and night patten of male calling songs show some differences; the shape of stridulatory file and mirror, the number and structure of stridulatory teeth show observable differences.
