With the continuous innovation and penetration of the new generation of information and communication technologies,a new round of industrial revolution is unfolding at an exponential speed around the world,and digital transformation is gradually becoming an important starting point for the innovation and development mode of global enterprises.As the "ballast stone" of China’s economy,manufacturing industry has a huge scale and a complete system,and is the main battlefield of technological innovation.With the gradual stability of economic growth,international trade fluctuations and other situations,the development of China’s manufacturing industry is facing great pressure.For this dilemma,how to give full play to and release the institutional advantages of China’s socialism,integrate government and market resources,use digital and information technology,and concentrate on promoting the digital transformation of manufacturing industry has become the core issue of common concern of political circles and industry.Based on this,in order to answer the question of the heterogeneity of digital transformation response behavior of manufacturing enterprises in the process of China’s reform and opening up,and to explain the complex mechanism of digital transformation response of manufacturing enterprises,the following four research questions are discussed:(1)What is the institutional motivation of the response of manufacturing enterprises to digital transformation?(2)What is the process mechanism of digital transformation response of manufacturing enterprises?(3)Will the response of manufacturing enterprises to digital transformation be affected by other situational factors?(4)What are the configuration effects that trigger the digital transformation response of manufacturing enterprises?In order to answer the four research questions,this research is based on digital manufacturing enterprises under China’s socialist market economic system transformation in the background,according to the institutional theory and cognitive theory of organizational management as the instruction,with the aid of theoretical analysis and literature research,the manufacturing process for manufacturing enterprise digital and digital two enterprise digital business model transformation response model,the theoretical framework of digital transformation response mechanism of manufacturing enterprises based on institutional pressure is constructed,and relevant research hypotheses are put forward.Then,a questionnaire survey was conducted to obtain 287 sample data of manufacturing enterprises,and structural equation model and regression analysis were used to test the hypothesis of the theoretical model of "Empirical study on the response mechanism of digital transformation of manufacturing enterprises based on institutional pressure".The configuration analysis method is used to systematically analyze and investigate the antecedent configuration model of "Research on the configuration effect of the digital transformation response mechanism of manufacturing enterprises based on institutional pressure",and the following main conclusions are drawn:First,based on the results of traditional quantitative research methods,it is found that:(1)Different institutional pressures have different impacts on the two types of digital transformation.Manufacturing process is more of a digital pressure response for specification,business model is more of a digital pressure response,cognitive,and is the result of the government regulation system is not as the pressure in the primary system get the response of the two types of digital transformation,explain enterprise digital transition more legitimacy is based on market demand,rather than a response to a system of government.(2)In the process of digitization of manufacturing process and business model,management cognition plays a mediating role between institutional pressure and enterprises’ response to digital transformation.Among them,the mediating role of urgency perception between regulatory pressure and enterprises’ response to digital transformation fails to pass the test because the positive effect of regulatory pressure on urgency perception is not significant.(3)Analytical cognitive style plays a negative moderating role between managerial cognition and enterprise digital transformation,creative cognitive style plays a positive moderating role between urgency cognition and enterprise digital transformation,and creative cognitive style plays a positive moderating role between managerial cognition and enterprise digital transformation.Second,based on the results of configuration analysis method,it is found that institutional factors and organizational cognitive factors "multiple concurrent" form two main paths(configuration)of enterprises’ digital transformation response,namely "government and market two-wheel drive" and "market drive".Specific view:(1)On the premise of no market pressure,there is no government regulatory response to the path of the pressure driven enterprise digital transformation,enterprises pay more attention to digital transition response is market legal requirements,which further proves the research conclusion of structural equation model,and cross validation from the different perspective of the theory and method,the conceptual model is correct.(2)Manageability cognition,as the core condition,appeared in twelve configurations,indicating that manageability cognition is an indispensable factor in realizing a high degree of digital transformation response.(3)From the two aspects of external institutional pressure and internal organizational cognitive style,this study divides the performance characteristics of successful digital transformation response into four types,namely "trend" initiative type,"trend" benefit type,"trend" steady progress type and "trend" change seeking type.The innovations and theoretical contributions of this study are as follows:(1)This study explores the root causes of the heterogeneity in the response behavior of Chinese enterprises to digital transformation in the current institutional context.By focusing on China’s unique socialist market economic environment,this paper clarifies the dual action mechanism of "government-market" in response to the digital transformation of manufacturing enterprises in the process of China’s reform and opening up,and reveals the influence of institutional pressure on the digital transformation of enterprises in the dual context.(2)This study further examines and clarifies the complex process mechanism of enterprise digital transformation response,and provides new ideas for enterprises to break the obstacles of digital transformation and accelerate the process of digital transformation.It not only opens the "black box" between institutional pressure and enterprise digital transformation,but also deepens the research on the motivation of enterprise digital transformation.(3)It has an insight into the configuration linkage effect of enterprise digital transformation response from the configuration perspective,reveals the complex causal relationship between multiple antecedents and results,and deepens the understanding of the mechanism of enterprise digital transformation response from the perspective of research,methods and ideas.Finally,the main conclusions,theoretical contributions and practical implications for the government and enterprises of this study are summarized,the limitations of this study are summarized,and the future research is prospected.
