As a banner of China’s economy, the development of innovation-driven strategy is a vivid epitome of China’s 40 years of reform and opening-up.The world focuses its attention on the innovation of China, which mostly depends on intellectual property protection. The establishment of intellectual property protection system has found an important foundation for a country’s innovation strategy,as an institutional guarantee. As we all know, the ultimate goal of intellectual property protection is to promote technological innovation to achieve high-quality development of China’s economy. With the acceleration of global economic integration, the role of intellectual property protection played in technological innovation is being more and more prominent. The study of relationship between intellectual property protection and innovation has attracted widespread attention.Nowadays, scholars at home and abroad have carried out abundant researches on whether intellectual property protection can promote technological innovation in a country or region both in theoretical and empirical analysis. However, whether strengthening intellectual property protection can promote technological innovation in developing countries is still a controversial issue.China,as a large country with uneven economic development in different regions, has significant differences in technological innovation and intellectual property protection among different regions, leading to different effect of intellectual property protection on technological innovation in different regions of China. Therefore,it is of great significance to study the relationship between intellectual property protection and technological innovation for the formulation of intellectual property protection policy and the improvement of technological innovation capability in our country. The main body consisting of five parts are arranged as follows:The first part is the theoretical mechanism analysis of the impact of intellectual property protection on technological innovation.Based on cobb-Douglas production function, this thesis introduces intellectual property factors into the endogenous growth model to analyze the effect of intellectual property protection on technological innovation, and further studies the threshold relationship between intellectual property protection and technological innovation.Based on the theory of new geographic economics and externality, the spatial correlation and heterogeneity between intellectual property protection and technological innovation are analyzed. The second part is the measurement of intellectual property protection. To study the impact of intellectual property protection on technological innovation,it is necessary to clarify the degree of intellectual property protection.Considering the differences in different regions such as economic development, resource endowments and culture etc.,this thesis takes into account more affecting factors on the basis of actual situation in China to improve the shortcomings of G-P measurement to measure the level of intellectual property rights. Finally,it comes with a new index of intellectual property protection level.According to the improved index system, the actual intellectual property protection in China is measured from the overall, provincial and regional levels, and the evolution and facts over time of the intellectual property protection in different regions are described, which has reflected the actual gap of intellectual property protection in different regions of China.Naturaly,it lays a foundation for the linear, nonlinear or spatial empirical analysis of the relationship between intellectual property protection and technological innovation in China. The third part generally analyzes the influence of intellectual property protection on technological innovation.Firstly, based on the generalized grey relational analysis model,it is designed to analyze the relationship between intellectual property protection and technological innovation in China, which has made a basis for further anaysis of the impact of intellectual property protection on technological innovation.Secondly, the panel data model is used to verify the impact of intellectual property protection lagging one period on technological innovation.Later, the one lag period of technological innovation is also added into the model, called as the dynamic panel data model,to study the dynamic relationship between intellectual property protection and technological innovation.Furthermore, the interaction terms of intellectual property protection and other influencing factors of technological innovation are added into the model respectively to investigate the synergistic effect of intellectual property protection and influencing variables on technological innovation. The robustness of the model has been tested by substituting variables. The heterogeneity of intellectual property protection on technological innovation is studied from east,West and West, which the dynamic regional heterogeneity has been compared from the eastern and western regions. The fourth part is the anaysis of threshold effect of intellectual property protection on technological innovation.Based on the previous research, taking intellectual property protection as the threshold variable to construct a threshold model,it is supposed to investigate whether there is a threshold effect of intellectual property protection on technological innovation, and whether the technological innovation varies with different threshold values of intellectual property protection, which has further clarified the nonlinear relationship between intellectual property protection and technological innovation. Therefore, samples of different time period are used to test robustness of the threshold effect of intellectual property protection.According to different threshold values of intellectual property protection, the regional differences of intellectual property protection in different regions are classified into various parts. Finally,a generalized additive model is used to describe the nonlinear relationship between intellectual property protection, human capital, government intervention, marketization degree, industrial structure or economic development on technological innovation, which has reflected the nonlinear influence of each influencing factor on technological innovation. The fifth part is about the spatial spillover effect of intellectual property protection on technological innovation.Based on mechanism analysis of the spatial impact of intellectual property protection on technological innovation,it is easy to discuss the spatial spillover effect and spatial heterogeneity of intellectual property protection on technological innovation. From geographic adjacency matrix, economic distance matrix and gravitational distance matrix,it is designed to reveal the spatial spillover effect and spatial heterogeneity of intellectual property protection on technological innovation with spatial correlation analysis, spatial panel econometric model, dynamic spatial panel model and geographic weighted regression model, which has provided empirical evidences in studying the spatial relationship between intellectual property protection and technological innovation. The main conclusions of the study are as follows:Firstly, based on the improved G-P index, the Daugm method is applied to measure the intellectual property protection. We can find that the largest gap of the intra-regional intellectual property protection is the western region, followed by the eastern region and the last is in the middle region. The largest gap of the inter-regional intellectual property protection is the eastern-western region, followed by the eastern-central region, and the last is the central-western regions. The inter-regional difference is bigger than the intra-regional difference, and the contribution rate of super variable density is the last.Secondly, the dynamic panel model is more accurate to analyze the influence of intellectual property protection on technological innovation. With the dynamic panel model, technological innovation with one period lag has a positive effect on technological innovation at 1% significance level, and intellectual property protection also has a positive effect on technological innovation at 1% significance level.Thirdly, the generalized additive model is firstly intorduced to analyze the nonlinear relationship between intellectual property protection and technological innovation. The results show that the nonlinear effect of intellectual property protection on technological innovation starts from a rapid rise to a slow decline with a gentle tail.Fourthly, the spatial metrology is used to study intellectual property protection and technological innovation, which has riched the empirical experience in spatio-temporal relationship between intellectual property protection and technological innovation.Through a series of Hausman test,LM test,Wald test and LR test, the dynamic space panel model is selected and has good fitting effect. The estimated results show that with technological innovation lagging one period, the spatial coefficients under three different weights are all significant. The regression coefficient of intellectual property protection on technological innovation is significant at 1% level under the three weights. The innovation and main contribution of this thesis lies in:Firstly, much more detailed analysis of the mechanism of intellectual property protection affecting technological innovation has been done. After the literature review, this thesis analyzes the mechanism of intellectual property protection on technological innovation.Based on cobb-Douglas production function,it has introduced intellectual property factors into the endogenous growth model to analyze the effect of intellectual property protection on technological innovation, and further study the threshold relationship between intellectual property protection and technological innovation.Based on the theory of new geographic economics and externality,it has presented the spatial correlation and heterogeneity between intellectual property protection and technological innovation. This thesis has enriched the anaysis of nonlinear relationship between intellectual property protection and technological innovation.Second,it has improved the indicators of intellectual property protection by diversifing the subject.Based on the R-R index and G-P index, the measure dimensionality of intellectual property has been changed from only considering the patent law to the combination of patent law, copyright law and trademark law, which is more comprehensive. As to the diversity of subjects to enforce intellectual property protection, such as intellectual property service agencies, has been included in index system of intellectual property protection, along with entropy weight method to assign the index weight. The measurement method of intellectual property protection in this thesis is completed with measuring degree of legislation as well as enforcement of intellectual property protection intensity, which has improved the coordination and credibility among the elements of law enforcement indicators.Further,it has analyzed the regional differences and dynamic evolution of China’s actual intellectual property protection more comprehensively, which lays the basis for the study of whether intellectual property protection promote the development of technological innovation.Thirdly,it has provided more empirical experience by introducing some econometric models in studying the relationship between intellectual property protection and technological innovation, such as grey relational degree, the Dagum method and dynamic panel model.Later,it is empirical to test the threshold effect of intellectual property protection in the relationship between intellectual property protection and technological innovation with the panel threshold regression model. The spatial mechanism of intellectual property protection and technological innovation is proved by the dynamic spatial model. The geographical weighted regression model is used to explore the spatial heterogeneity of intellectual property protection on technological innovation. The generalized additive model is firtly introudced to analyze the nonlinear influence of each influencing factor on technological innovation.Through the application of the above methods, the empirical experience for the impact of intellectual property protection on technological innovation is expanded and enriched.
