Abstract/Summary:
As digital technologies such as Big Data,cloud computing,artificial intelligence and the Internet of things continue to make new breakthroughs,new technologies,new forms of business and new models are emerging in an endless stream to promote the robust development of the digital economy,for the mass entrepreneurship to start a new track,set off a new round of the upsurge of national entrepreneurship.However,due to the influence of century epidemic and century changes,and the congenital defect of“New fragility”,the failure rate of start-ups is generally high.Therefore,how to improve the quality of entrepreneurship and enhance the performance of enterprises has become a reality of many new start-ups are facing a difficult problem.In the digital context,the production and management of enterprises,the change of customer demand,the behavior of competitors,the implementation and change of market policy can all be presented in the form of data,data has become a key new factor of production.On the one hand,data resources are easy to obtain,low-cost and replicable.By replicating,increasing and sharing data,traditional factors of production can be endowed,and the added value and growth space of traditional factors of production can be increased,on the other hand,by integrating and processing the huge amount of data,we can solve the problem of the shortage of resources and the diminishing benefit of traditional factors of production(Liu et al.,2021;Ma et al.,2021),data can be turned into valuable information and knowledge to compensate for the lack of entrepreneurial experience,while in-depth analysis and insight into data can further identify potential entrepreneurial and innovative opportunities,predicting changes in the external environment guides start-ups to make decisions more scientifically and rationally(Ferraris et al.,2019;Ghezzi and Cavallo,2020).Therefore,the construction and development of Enterprise’s big data capability,giving full play to the basic resource of data and the role of innovation engine,is of great significance for the new start-ups to enhance their entrepreneurial efficiency and expand the space for survival and development.However,there is a lack of research on the relationship between big data capability and start-up performance in the existing literature,and the mechanism of the relationship between the two is rarely studied.Based on this,this paper from the perspective of big data capability,to explore the path of new venture performance.This study attempts to address the following questions: first,can start-ups improve their performance through big data capabilities? Secondly,how does big data capability improve the performance of start-ups? Is there a transmission medium between the two? Finally,in the process of the effect of big data capability on the performance of start-ups,are there any contingency factors that affect this mechanism?In order to deeply analyze the above problems,this research takes the start-up enterprises less than 8 years old as the research object,and uses the research method of combining theoretical deduction and empirical analysis,based on exploratory multi-case studies and related theories,an integrated model of the relationship among big data capability,entrepreneurial opportunity identification,business model innovation,entrepreneurial orientation,environmental uncertainty and new venture performance is constructed After expert discussion,pre-investigation,factor analysis and other steps,the final form of a formal questionnaire containing 43 items;Through online and offline methods in Guangdong,Zhejiang,Beijing,Fujian,Shaanxi,Shanxi,Guangxi,Jilin and other provinces and cities conducted a questionnaire survey,the final recovery of 438 valid questionnaires;For the questionnaire data,descriptive statistical analysis,reliability and validity test,common method bias test,correlation analysis,hierarchical regression analysis and Bootstrap analysis were used to test the hypothesis.The conclusions of this study are as follows: first,as a key dynamic capability in the Digital Age,big data capability has a significant positive impact on the new venture performance;Entrepreneurial Opportunity Identification and business model innovation are both important links in the entrepreneurial process,and play a part of intermediary role in the relationship between Big Data Capability and new venture performance,both of them play the role of chain mediation in this relationship.That is,there is a“Big data capability-entrepreneurial opportunity recognition-business model innovation-new venture performance ” path of action,and thirdly,entrepreneurial orientation is an important internal moderator,it can positively regulate the relationship between big data capability and entrepreneurial opportunity identification,and between big data capability and business model innovation,and entrepreneurial orientation positively regulates the intermediary path of entrepreneurial opportunity identification and business model innovation,environmental uncertainty is an important external variable that positively regulates the relationship between big data capabilities and startup performance,as well as between business model innovation and startup performance,and environmental uncertainty positively regulates the intermediary path of business model innovation.This study enriches the related research on big data capability,new venture performance and the relationship between them,which has certain theoretical value and practical significance.In theory,first of all,we use quantitative methods to analyze the impact of big data capability on the performance of start-ups,which enriches the empirical study of big data capability,it provides a feasible direction for the entrepreneurship research of Chinese enterprises in the digital context,this paper probes into and tests in detail the internal functions of the two explanatory mechanisms of entrepreneurial opportunity identification and business model innovation in the relationship between Big Data Capability and new venture performance,and opens the "Black Box" between the two,finally,some moderating variables,such as entrepreneurial orientation and environmental uncertainty,are introduced to fill the gap in the explanation of the internal mechanism between the two,furthermore,the boundary condition of the effect of big data capability on the performance of start-ups is explored and verified.In addition,this paper provides some practical guidance on how to improve the profitability of start-ups and gain sustained growth momentum.In the process of entrepreneurship,enterprises should attach importance to the cultivation of big data capability,promote the establishment of entrepreneurial-oriented organizations,and actively identify potential opportunities in the market,and according to the opportunity to constantly innovate business model to adapt to the external environment changes.This research has certain reference value to improve the quality of our country’s entrepreneurial activity and the success rate of entrepreneurship.Although some useful results have been obtained,there are still some limitations which need to be improved in future research.
