Chinese logic thought,being well-known as one of the three major sources of logic,originate can reach to a relative mature stage in the pre-Qin period.However,after the Qin and Han dynasty,the study of Chinese logical thought gradually declined.Until modern times,benefiting from the input of western logic,the rise of textual research movement in the Qing Dynasty and the development of the thought of "Western knowledge originated in China",the systematic study of Chinese logic thought has regained its vitality.The study of modern Chinese logic thought can be divided into three questions: Is there any Chinese logic? What is Chinese logic? Is the so-called Chinese logic logic?On whether there is Chinese logic or not.The answer of modern Chinese scholars was heavily influenced by their Japanese peers.Liu Shipei and Zhang Taiyan made it clear that there was logic in ancient China,while Liang Qichao and Wang Guowei experienced the transformation from no logic in China to logic in China.And in the specific research,they all used western logic to discuss the connotation of Chinese logic thought in the pre-Qin period and prove the existence of ancient Chinese logic.After that,the proposition that there is logic in ancient China was basically recognized by the academic circles,laying the foundation for the establishment of the emerging field--Chinese logic thought study.On what Chinese logic is.Hu Shi,from the perspective of pragmatism,regarded Chinese logic as the research method of ancient Chinese philosophy,and systematically described the rise and fall of pre-Qin logic thought;Zhang Shizhao used the basic layout of formal logic textbooks,regarded Chinese and Western logic as equal comparison objects,and used ancient Chinese logic thought or examples to test their counterparts with western logic;Guo Zhanbo,under the guidance of materialist dialectics,analyzed the formation,development,and decline of pre-Qin logic thought from a socio-historical perspective;Tan Jiefu believed that Hetuvidya and Mohist logic are similar,and creatively proposed the concept of Bianqi and Sanbianqi,and reconstructed the Mohist theory with reference to Hetuvidya’s five methods and three methods;In their research,Chen Qitian and Yu Yu discarded the traditional classification of the pre-Qin School: Confucianism,Mohism,Taoism,School of Law,School of Ming,etc.Interestingly,they regarded Mingxue as the basis to distinguish different schools,and discussed their doctrines and their relationship with ancient Chinese scholarship;Feng Youlan and Zhang Dainian regarded logic as part of the history of philosophy,and discussed the development process and connotation of Chinese logic thought in the process of systematically describing and summarizing the history of ancient Chinese philosophy,etc.In short,the research at this stage further discussed the specific connotation of Chinese logic and fully demonstrated the theoretical basis of the discipline of Chinese logic thought research.Regarding whether the so-called Chinese logic is logic.Guo Moruo believed that the Mingbian thought in the pre-Qin period was the tool used by the scholars to discuss argumentation at that time,but it never developed into a mature formal logic system.Therefore,he mainly investigated the development of Mingbian in the pre-Qin period.Zhao Jibin,though critically applied the method of Guo,did not accept Guo’s viewpoint and stated that Mingbian thought is logic,and further,Mingbian thought is the initial stage of logic.He systematically summarized the sprouted,developed,and matured periods of Mingbian thoughts.It is thus clear that Guo and Zhao’s research highlighted the localization of pre-Qin Ming Bian thought and emphasized the characteristics of Chinese logic thought,which is of great significance for the higher quality development of the discipline of the history Chinese logic.This dissertation makes comprehensive use of the methods of logical interpretation,comparative study,historical analysis and cultural interpretation to investigate and sort out the whole process of the formation and development of the study of Chinese logic thought in modern times,and summarizes the gains and losses during the process,so as to enlightens current study of Chinese logic thought.Specifically,it includes: first,a comparative study should be carried out with Organon as the basic reference;second,the national characteristics embedded in ancient Chinese logic thought should be explored;third,emphasizing on the Qin and Han Dynasty and later logical thought research;fourth,regard ancient Chinese logic as a link of traditional Chinese knowledge system,and consider its relationship with other related disciplines;fifth,the development law of Chinese logic could be explored from the perspective of historical analysis and cultural interpretation;Sixthly,studying ancient logic thought with realistic concern to the exploration of its contemporary value. |
