Zenju(善珠)’s Inmyōronsho myōtōshō(《因明论疏明灯抄》),hereinafter referred to as Myōtōshō(《明灯抄》),occupies an extremely important position in the study of Chinese Hetu-vidyā,with high literature value, great ideological creativity, and academic status, representing the level of early Japanese Hetu-vidyāstudying.This book is not only a systematic summary of Hetu-vidyāof Tang dynasty, but also constructs the discipline system of Hetu-vidyāideologically,trying to establish the education system of Hetu-vidyā.However,because Myōtōshōis the annotation of Kuījī(窥基)’s Nyāyaprave?avārttikā(《因明大疏》)and the annotation of?a?karasvāmin(商羯罗主)’s Nyāyaprave?a(《入论》),Zenju did not put forward his own system besides the framework of Kuījī,and Myōtōshōhas two characteristics. One is the complexity of the text;the other is the complication of thought. This makes it difficult to form an overview from the perspective of philosophical topics when understanding the Hetuvidyāthought in Zenju’s Myōtōshō,thus affecting the specific discussion of Hetu-vidyātopics.In view of this, this paper systematically sorts out the text of Myōtōshōin the form of monographic study and divides it into six subjects to carry out the study of Zenju’s Myōtōshō’s thought of Hetu-vidyā.From a research perspective, the first chapter is the philosophy literature special topic;the second chapter is the philosophy history special topic;from the third chapter to the sixth chapter are the philosophy special topic,by pramā?a(量论),pak?a(宗论),hetu(因论)and do?a(过论)four special topics thoroughly explain the thoughts of Zenju’s Myōtōshō.Based on the study of literature and the history of philosophy, this paper concisely refines the philosophical viewpoints of Zenju’s Myōtōshōand makes a broad and profound argumentation analysis and comparative study,so as to comprehensively present Zenju’s thought of Hetu-vidyā.This study deals with the research achievement in aspect of six aspects. In the first chapter, based on the study of the characters of Zenju and the text of Myōtōshō,this paper examines Zenju’s life and the relationship between Zenju and his teachers, and points out that Zenju’s academic orientation is follow Kuījīand Yuance(圆测).In addition, this paper makes detailed research on the motivation and process of the writing of Myōtōshō,clarifies the writing time of Myōtōshō,investigates the edition information, explores the literature value of Myōtōshō,and analyzes the text structure of Myōtōshō.The second chapter takes subject framework of Hetu-vidyāas a special topic, discusses the construction of Hetu-vidyāof Zenju, and holds that the concept of Hetu-vidyāof Zenju has a distinct pramā?a meaning, points out the multiple connotations of Hetu-vidyā,and distinguishes the differences between older and newer Hetu-vidyā.The third chapter takes the pramā?a as a special topic to study Zenju’s view of pratyak?a(现量)and anumāna(比量)in Myōtōshō.His understanding of the nature and relationship between pratyak?a and anumāna is extremely profound, which not only highlights the fundamental position of pratyak?a in pramā?a,but also provides a corresponding analysis of the division criteria and characteristics of pratyak?a.Not only that,Zenju’s elucidation of anumāna is also based on the philosophical basis of pramā?a.He discusses the nature of anumāna on the basis of the relationship between two pramā?a,which provides a solid foundation for the formal study of anumāna.The fourth chapter takes pak?a as a special topic, discusses Zenju’s views and propositions on pak?a in Myōtōshō,defines the type and nature of pak?a,explains the concept of dividing pak?a,and analyzes Zenju’s apoha(遣他)theory. The fifth chapter studies the hetu theory of Zenju’s Myōtōshō,mainly discussing the related problems of Sadhetavah(六因),Traiupya(因三相)and Hetu-cakra-damaru(九句因).The paper points out that Sad-hetavah is a kind of hetu theory based on argumentation theory, which involves psychological state, cognitive function, language transmission and so on.In addition, the three phases have the meaning of religion practice, that is,it leading to the wisdom of a buddha and yoga. The sixth chapter takes do?a as a special topic, analyzes the two connotations of do?a,points out that the two major components of do?a are thirty-threeābhāsa(三十三过)and fourteen do?a(十四过类),thus introduces Zenju’s specific concepts of the two, analyzes the nature and structure of do?a-vada,and explores the specific problems of do?a-vada.There are four innovations in the above monographic study of Zenju’s Myōtō shō:First, the literature is investigating various modern editions of Zenju’s Myōtō shō and related research papers, especially clarifying the existing ancient manuscripts of Myōtōshō in Japan from different channels and discovering new manuscripts that have not yet been noticed by the academic circles.Secondly, the text work is based on the basic research work of the text, the main academic problems are analyzed, the characters and academic activities of Zenju are sorted out,and the basic structure of Myōtō shō is divided. On this basis,it also digs deeply into the details of the text, analyzes the discipline concept of Zenju, and innovatively puts forward different views on the inheritance of Hetu-vidyā of Tang dynasty. The third is the paper consciously compares the research on the thought of Hetu-vidyā in Zenju’s Myōtō shō with the current hot issues of Hetu-vidyā research in China, sorts out the viewpoints of Myōtō shō according to the frontier topics in the academic circles, and carries out corresponding elucidation and comparative research, among which the elucidation of pramā?a meaning of Myōtōshō is particularly prominent.Fourth, the philosophical analysis is in-depth.The paper analyses and demonstrates Zenju’s thoughts of Hetu-vidyā in detail and puts forward some new viewpoints on the frontier research of Hetu-vidyā.
