Research On The Interrelated Form Of City And Town Settlement Landscape In The Jingzhou-Xiangyang Historic Corridor

Urban settlement landscape was a regional cultural " complex" composed of the built space and the natural environment,formed by the frequent interaction between the traditional construction system and the geographical environment during the process of natural and cultural stratification.Internal and external integration and regional correlation were its typical morphological characteristics.The historic corridor from Jingzhou to Xiangyang ancient city played a strategic central role in the ancient national military defense and commercial circulation pattern because of its unique geographical environment.The urban settlements in the corridor were highly related in geographical,economic,cultural and development relations in the past,so the characteristics of regional integration were particularly typical.However,under the multiple realistic background of the increasingly loose regional historical structure and the fragmentation of current heritage environment,this regional historical and cultural spatial feature has always been a blind spot in the conversation.In view of this,on the occasion of reflecting on the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the protection system the Famous Historical and Cultural City,this study put forward the concept of "interrelated form" and constructed its theoretical analytical framework based on the theoretical enlightenment of relevant disciplines,advocating to shift the discussion from the "Ontological element " to " Interrelated order ".The framework could provide guidance for the study and overall protection of regional urban and rural cultural heritage.Based on the concept of interrelated form,the study adopted two analysis principle: horizontal analysis of correlation anchoring and vertical analysis of correlation stratification,revealed the overall order,evolution law and explored the interrelated reconstruction strategy of for the urban settlements in Jing-xiang historic corridor according to the two relation logics of Manland relationship and regional social relationship,from the two spatial levels of region and specific settlement,and the main content includes the following five parts.The first part was to construct the theoretical analysis framework of the " interrelated form " of regional urban settlement landscape from the three dimensions of spatial system,analysis method and practical application,and the symbolic elements,connecting order and spatial boundary were the spatial system and structural elements,the horizontal correlation anchoring of the holistic form and the vertical correlation stratification based on the stability of structural elements were the two main analytical principle,and the historic significance,holistic significance and cultural significance of interrelated forms determine that it could be the internal logic to reconstruct the regional settlement heritages today.The second part revealed the regional correlation order between urban settlements in the Jing-xiang historic corridor from different systems by the main correlation logic,which included using the "Figure-ground " relationship to reveal the associated cluster formed by regional geographical factors;using the "Pole-domain" relationship to reveal the discrete correlation circle formed by regional military defense factors;using the "Point-axis" relationship to reveal the continuous correlation sequence formed by regional commercial factors and using the "Near-far" relationship to reveal the dependent correlation landscape formed by regional water conservancy factors.In the third part,it revealed the interrelated form and the features of different types of the historic cities and towns,based on their regional strategic position and traffic node type respectively.Among them,historic cities mainly formed three typical “City-market”relationship modes: the port market with wall separated from the governing city,the commercial axis integrated wity the governing city and the small market attached to the city gate.While traditional towns mainly include the market formed by relying on water ferry,the market formed by relying on the post station along the ancient road,the market formed by relying on the river embankment and polder field and the market formed by relying on ancient pass.The fourth part traced back the diachronic evolution process of correlation,and analyzed the stratification and transformation law of interrelated form from its three structural elements at the two spatial levels of region and settlement.In the process of settlement balance evolution,the anchoring and aggregation of symbolic elements,the growth and correction of connecting order,and the limitation and integration of spatial boundary were the main stabilizing effect of the interrelated form.In the process of rapid development,the three also generally experienced the transformation process of replacement,overlay and decline.In the fifth part,combined with the management system of the Spatial Planning of National and the protection trend of urban and rural historical and cultural heritage in the new era,facing the system construction,it was suggested to implement the "double management and control" mode for the ontology elements and related forms both to be included in the protection bottom line,so as to make up for the deficiency of single element management and control in the past.Then facing the protection practice,the strategies of reconstructing the connection order of urban settlements in Jingxiang historic corridor were explored from different spatial levels,based on the construction logic of the interrelated form and according to the history and reality.The research shows that the urban settlement landscape of Jing-xiang historic corridor has overall protection and utilization value,and is a very important link in the protection and inheritance system of history and culture in Hubei Province and even the whole country.The historical significance,overall significance and cultural significance of interrelated form provide a logical framework for revealing the characteristics and evolution law of the space of settlements,as well as coordinating protection and development and other complex relations.The integration of interrelated form into the management and control system and the strategies to reconstruct the holistic order are conducive to the continuation of the historical context and overall characteristics of the regional settlement landscape,which is also of great supplementary significance to the ways of heritage conservation based on listed relic elements.
