In order to achieve the goal of using plant flavonoid compounds to develop the textiles for healthy and environmental care,four different plant material extracts containing flavonoid compounds were prepared with ruits of Lycium ruthenicum Murray(LRM)and Vaccinium spp.(VS),Ginkgo biloba L.(GBL)leaves and Vitis vinifera L.(VVL)seeds by an ethanol/water extraction process.On the basis of several characterisation on their chemical structure and flavonoids content,these extracts were then used for dyeing wool or silk yarns or fabrics with different color characteristics using an exhaustion dyeing process.The effect of several main factors such as dosage of plant material extract,dyeing temperature and p H level of dyeing bath on dyeing properties(color strength,characteristics and fastness)and the content of deposited flavonoid compounds of four plant material extract dyed wool fabrics were studied in detail.Their antimicrobial activities,antioxidant activities and aqueous chromium(VI)reductive removal performances were then investigated and compared.In addition,comparisons between wool fabric and silk fabric on dyeing properties and functionalizations were also made.The results indicated that plant material ethanol extracts were found to contain more flavonoid compounds than plant material water extracts,thus obtaining the dyed wool fabric with high content of deposited flavonoid compounds and color strength.Moreover,the content of deposited flavonoid compounds and color strength of plant material extract dyed wool fabrics could be significantly improved through increasing dosage of plant material extract or dyeing temperature,and reduced in the alkaline media.Four plant material extract dyed wool fabrics showed better antimicrobial activities,antioxidant activities and aqueous chromium(VI)reductive removal performance.LRM and VS dyed wool fabrics had stronger functionalities than the other two extracts dyed wool fabrics.There was a good positive correlation between the content of deposited flavonoid compounds and functionalities of the plant material extract dyed wool fabric.The aqueous chromium(VI)reductive removal performance of GBL dyed wool fabrics could almost reach or exceed that of LRM and VS dyed wool fabrics by increasing the content of deposited flavonoid compounds.Compared with wool fabric,silk fabric was dyed easily with GBL extract to prepare the dye fabric with high content of flavonoids compounds,thus which exhibited the increased content of deposited flavonoid compounds and strong functionalizaties,especially chromium(VI)reductive removal performance.These finds will play a huge role in not only promoting the comprehensive utilization of plant flavonoids resources and reduce environment pollution,but also developing the application of plant flavonoids in textile industry to obtain the environmental-friendly and high functional textiles. |
