In order to achieve the goal of using color matter and flavonoid contained in Pterocarpus santalinus(P.santalinus)to develop the textiles for healthy and environmental care.P.santalinus heartwood powders were treated with ethanol/water system using different extraction methods in this study. The effects of ethanol/water volume ratio, liquid to solid ratio and p H value on color and total flavonoid contents, solid content and extraction yield of the obtained extracts were investigated. On the basis of several characterization, the obtained extracts were used for the dyeing of wool fabric. The influence of dyeing temperature,p H and extract dosage of the resulting extracts on the color strength and flavonoid adsorption content of the dyed wool fabric was also examined.the color characteristics, fastness, antibacterial and antioxidant activities and aqueous Cr(VI)reductive removal capacity of dyed wool fabric were also evaluated and compared. The results indicated that the extract obtained using Soxhlet extraction showed high color and flavonoid contents, thus led to high color strength and flavonoid adsorption content of the dyed wool fabric. When ethanol/water volume ratio being 80% or liquid to solid ratio being 50:1,the extract with highest color and total flavonoid contents was obtained.Acidic and neutral conditions were more effective for the extraction of color matter and flavonoid from P.santalinus heartwood powders than alkaline media.High dyeing temperature and low p H during the dyeing process favored the dyeing of wool fabric with P.santalinus extract, thus obtaining the dyed wool fabric with increasing color strength and flavonoid adsorption content. The dyed wool fabric has better fastnesses to wash, rubbing and light.Metal salt-based mordants could improve the fastnesses of the dyed wool fabric.Moreover,P.santalinus dyed wool fabric also showed excellent antibacterial activities against E.coli and S.aureus and better antioxidant performance for hydroxyl and superoxide radicals.Increasing color and flavonoid adsorption contents often enhanced antibacterial and antioxidant activities.Importantly,it was found that the dyed wool fabric exhibited high aqueous Cr(VI)reductive removal performance.High flavonoid adsorption content of the dyed wool fabric or decreasing p H level could accelerate the removal of Cr(VI)from water.the dyed wool fabric still showed good Cr(VI)reductive removal performance after five reuses. These findings are of great significance for the comprehensive utilization of P.santalinus wood resources and enriching and inheriting of Chinese traditional dyeing culture. |
