Production efficiency is an important indicator to measure the allocation of rural resources, the level of production management and the status of production and operation, and also an important symbol to measure the level and change of agricultural economic development. Therefore, the improvement of production efficiency plays a positive role in improving farmers' well-being and promoting agricultural development. The government working report of 2021 points out that promoting the quality and efficiency of agriculture and attaching importance to the high-quality development of agriculture is the only way to realize the leap from a big agricultural country to a powerful agricultural country. After entering the 21 st century, modern communication technology has been fully integrated into people's production, life and all aspects of society, which has a significant impact on the development of agricultural economy. On the one hand, the use of modern communication technology can promote the fine management and quality control system based on the Internet of things, big data, artificial intelligence and other new technologies, continuously promote the integration of digital technology and traditional factors, promote the transformation of agricultural production mode from extensive to intensive, optimize the allocation of agricultural factors. On the other hand, the use of modern communication technology is gradually eliminating the incomplete information situation caused by location, traffic and other factors, which makes it easier for farmers to obtain new agricultural technology and new knowledge, and then continuously improve the technology adoption level of farmers. Moreover, the market information obtained by farmers in the process of using modern communication technology can continuously alleviate the problems of information asymmetry and market opacity, reduce the lag and blindness of farmers' market decision-making,and improve the degree of farmers' market participation.Based on the above analysis, the use of modern communication technology can optimize the allocation of factors, improve the level of technology, reduce blind decision-making,and promote the transformation of agricultural production mode. However, the existing research on the effect of modern communication technology on Farmers' production efficiency lacks a complete theoretical framework and systematic analysis, and the analysis on the impact path of modern communication technology on production efficiency is rare.Under this realistic background, this paper makes the following research: what is the effect of the use of modern communication technology on the production efficiency of farmers? Through what path? What are the effects of different paths on Farmers' production efficiency? All of them have become the issues of widespread concern. From the perspective of input, output and market, this paper studies how the use of modern communication technology affects farmers' production efficiency through the intermediate path of factor allocation, technology adoption and market participation, this has important practical significance to improve the production efficiency of farmers.Based on the background of rural informatization, this paper is guided by a variety of theoretical systems, such as transaction cost theory, economic growth theory, information economy theory and production efficiency theory.Taking 754 vegetable growers in Shouguang,Shandong Province as samples, this paper summarizes the use status and existing problems of farmers' modern communication technology in the sample area, measures farmers' production efficiency, and analyzes the differences of farmers' production efficiency using modern communication technology. Then this paper discusses the direct impact of the use of modern communication technology on the production efficiency of farmers and its indirect impact through the three paths of factor allocation, technology adoption and market participation by using the measurement methods of propensity score matching, regression adjustment and intermediary effect model. It is expected that the research will provide some theoretical support for promoting the development of rural informatization, optimizing the allocation of agricultural resources, improving farmers' technology adoption and enhancing farmers' market participation to improve farmers' production efficiency. The conclusions are as follows:(1)In the sample area, the utilization rate of smart phones is high, while the utilization rate of computers is low.Farmers use modern communication technology more for leisure and entertainment, rather than learning or querying agricultural information.Nearly half of the farmers believe that the use of modern communication technology can improve knowledge acquisition, optimize vegetable production and improve social interaction. However,Nearly 40% of farmers believe that the use of modern communication technology will not increase vegetable income.According to the analysis, there are a series of problems in the development of modern communication technology.Among the capital investment of farmers in the sample area,short-term capital investment is much higher than the proportion of long-term capital investment.Insufficient long-term capital investment will inevitably lead to a lack of stamina for agricultural development and affect the sustainable and healthy development of rural areas. In addition, the proportion of labor and land input is high, but the degree of technology input and adoption is low.It can be concluded that the economic development of the sample area is still the traditional extensive economic growth mode driven by factor input, and it still needs a period of time to fully realize the high-quality development driven by technology.(2)Using the SFA model to measure the production efficiency of farmers,it can be concluded that more than 80% of the farmers' production efficiency in the sample area is between 0.2 and 0.8.The production efficiency of farmers is at the medium level or above. In addition, the comparative analysis of t test shows that there is a significant difference in the production efficiency between the farmers who use modern communication technology and those who do not,and the former is higher than the latter. The empirical analysis of the influencing factors of farmers' production efficiency shows that the use of modern communication technology has a significant impact on Farmers' production efficiency at the1% level. In addition, the education level of the head of household, annual vegetable income, proportion of non-agricultural income, vegetable planting scale and technology investment all have significant positive effects on the production efficiency of farmers. Therefore,we can improve farmers' production efficiency by improving their knowledge and technical literacy, optimizing the allocation of agricultural factors, and encouraging large-scale operation.(3)According to the analysis of the use of modern communication technology, factor allocation and farmers' production efficiency,it can be concluded that: The use of modern communication technology can improve the production efficiency of farmers by improving the level of capital services, creating high-quality talent reserves and optimizing the allocation of land resources.Compared with the farmers who do not use modern communication technology, the production efficiency of farmers who use modern communication technology is 4.79% higher than that of farmers who do not use modern communication technology. The factor allocation of farmers is composed of capital, land and labor, and its contribution rate to production efficiency is significant. The contribution rate of long-term capital investment is 38.036%,and that of short-term capital investment is21.324%.The contribution rate of land input is 18.024%,and that of labor input is 9.268%.(4)According to the analysis of the use of modern communication technology, technology adoption and farmers' production efficiency,it can be concluded that the use of modern communication technology can significantly improve farmers' adoption of agricultural science and technology.Compared with the farmers who did not use modern communication technology, the investment in water-saving irrigation technology, deep tillage and subsoiling technology, soil testing formula technology and green prevention and control technology increased by 387.721 yuan,87.261 yuan,59.169 yuan and 143.612 yuan respectively. The use of modern communication technology can affect farmers' production efficiency through water-saving irrigation technology, deep tillage and subsoiling technology and green prevention and control technology, and the mediating effects of water-saving irrigation technology, deep tillage and subsoiling technology and green prevention and control technology are partial mediators, with mediating effects of 13.46%,9.62% and 7.69% respectively. However, soil testing formula technology is not significant in the path that the use of modern communication technology affects farmers' production efficiency.(5)According to the analysis of the use of modern communication technology, market participation and farmers' production efficiency,it can be concluded that :From the perspective of depth and breadth, this paper selects two variables to measure farmers' market participation: bargaining power and sales channel choice. The use of modern communication technology has a significant positive impact on Farmers' bargaining power and sales channel choice at the statistical level of 1%.The use of modern communication technology can not only directly affect farmers' production efficiency, but also indirectly affect farmers' production efficiency through bargaining power and the path of sales channel selection. Moreover, the mediating effects of bargaining power and sales channel selection are partial mediators, accounting for 30.24% and 17.63% of the total effects respectively.Based on relevant empirical conclusions, the following policy recommendations are put forward: improve the rural information service system and enhance the information capabilities of farmers;give full play to the advantages of modern communication technology to promote high-quality agricultural development;promote the integration of informatization and element resources, and optimize the allocation of agricultural elements;accelerate the adoption rate of agricultural technology, and use science and technology to promote rural revitalization;Agricultural informatization drives marketization and increases farmers' participation in the market.
