With the development of high-tech industries, the process of technological innovation is becoming more and more complicated, therefore, enterprises have to guarantee the promotion of both exploitative and exploratory innovations,in order to achieve a sustainable competitive advantage. In the era of knowledge and network economy,on the one hand, knowledge becomes the core element for technology innovation, enterprises are aimed to complete the R&D of core technology by the construction and configuration of their knowledge base;on the other hand, the boundaries of enterprises are become more and more blurred, they want to promote the innovation speed and efficiency of innovations by paying more attention on how to integrate external resources in the platform of external R&D cooperation networks in the paradigm of open innovation. Therefore,How to allocate external cooperation channels and internal knowledge structure rationally is the key to promote dual innovations, and now this topic attracted widely attention from the scholars in the field of innovation research. While there is a large and expanding body of work on the internal and ext ernal factors that may influence enterprise exploitative and exploratory innovations, scholars have not answer one of the most important questions: How to leverage external resources and allocate internal knowledge structure rationally,in order to promote the exploitative and exploratory innovations. Therefore, enterprise face many challenges in the processes of innovations, such as excessive reliance on external resource or neglect of the cultivation of core technology, because of the short of theoretical foundation. In order to solve the above problems and fill the research gaps,we propose that the effect of a firm's existing knowledge structure must be considered together with its external knowledge acquisition mechanisms in the process of exploitative and exploratory innovations.Based on the theory of innovation network,knowledge-based theory, organizational ambidexterity theory, and theory of open innovation, this study explored the effects of structural characteristics of external collaboration networks and internal knowledge networks on firms' dual innovation by applying the methods of theoretical reasoning and empirical analysis systematically. This research could fill in the gap that study on dual innovation research, and promote the improvement o f theories related to innovation network and knowledge base. The research findings will provide some practical insights for enterprises and managers'leveraging external resources and allocating internal knowledge structure rationally,in order to promote the exploitative and exploratory innovations.Firstly, this research proposed and tested the theoretical model regarding the dynamic impact of embeddedness in collaboration networks on firm dual innovation from the perspective of network inertia. This research found that with the development of technology in the high-tech industry, the positive effect of relational embeddedness on firm dual innovation is gradually strengthened, and the positive effect of structural embeddedness on firm exploratory innovation is also gradually strengthened. However,in the process of technology development, the positive of structural embeddedness on firm exploitative innovation is gradually weakened.During the stable stage of technology development, structural embeddedness has a negative effect on firm exploitative innovation.Network inertia positively moderates the relationships between structural embeddedness in collaboration networks and firm dual innovation. The moderating effects of network inertia are different in the different development of industrial technology. This research further proposed and tested the theoretical model regarding the dynamic effects of embeddedness in knowledge networks on firm dual innovation from the perspective of technology cluster. This research found that structural embeddedness in knowledge networks positively impact on firm dual innovation, and with the development of industrial technology, the positive effect of structural embeddedness in knowledge networks on firm exploitative innovatio n is gradually weakened,in the stable stage of industrial technology, structural embeddedness in knowledge networks has a negative effect on firm exploitative innovation.Relational embeddedness in knowledge networks positively impact on firm dual innovation, and with the development of industrial technology, the positive effect of relational embeddedness in knowledge networks on firm exploratory innovation is gradually weakened,in the stable stage of industrial technology, relational embeddedness in knowledge networks has a negative effect on firm exploratory innovation. The moderating effects of clustering within technology cluster and bridging ties are different in the different development of industrial technology. Then this research proposed and tested the theoretical model regarding the effect of dual embeddedness in two networks on firm dual innovation. This research found that the interaction between dual structural embeddedness in collaboration networks and knowledge networks has a positive effect on firm exploratory innovation and has a negative effect on firm exploitative innovation. The interaction between dual relational embeddedness in collaboration networks and knowledge networks has a positive effect on firm exploitative innovation and has a negative effect on firm exploratory innovation. The i nteraction between relational embeddedness in collaboration networks and structural embeddedness in knowledge networks has negative effects on firm dual innovation. The interaction between structural embeddedness in collaboration networks and relational embeddedness in knowledge networks has negative effects on firm dual innovation.External knowledge search mediates the relationship between relational embeddedness in knowledge networks and firm dual innovation, and mediates the relationship between structural embeddedness in collaboration networks and firm dual innovation. This research revealed the impacts of dual embeddedness on firm dual innovation. Finally, this research explored the effects of small world of collaboration networks and cohesion of knowledge networks on firm dual innovation from the perspective of whole network. It found that clustering in collaboration networks has a positive effect on firm exploitative innovation, and has an inverted-U shaped relationship with firm exploratory innovation. The short path length of collaboration networks has negative effects on firm dual innovation. The global cohesion of knowledge network has a positive effect on firm exploitative innovation, and has an inverted-U shaped relationship with firm exploratory innovation. The local cohesion of knowledge network has a positive effect on firm dual innovation.Furthermore, the global cohesion of knowledge network strengthens the effects of clustering of collaboration network on firm dual innovation, and the local cohesion of knowledge network weakens the negative effect of short path length of collaboration networks on firm dual innovation.
