When the world is rapidly moving toward information-based society and population is aging,it becomes important that the elder people learn to use smart phones to connect the rest of the world. However, the elder people face various difficulties when using smart phones.Although this relates to the decreasing recognition of the elder people,it also shows the manufactures and designers of smart phones not paying sufficient attention to the elder group. The office of state council released "The Note to Address Difficulties of Using Smart Phones for Elder People" in 2020,which emphasized necessities to address technical difficulties for elder people to use smart techniques and expand R&D for elder-friendly smart products. In the thesis,I focus on user experience for early elder people to use smart phones. The early elder people are defined as the group of people whose sensing, physical bodies and recognition begin to degenerate. They are the group of people who encounter difficulties when using smart phones. The goal of this thesis is to improve user experience of smart phones for early elder people. It starts with theories by the survey on related works and determines major difficulties,e.g.,acceptance difficulty and usability difficulty, for early elder people to user smart phones.Furthermore,it proposes a framework for research on user experience of smart phones for early elder people and "PUA"(Perceived Usability and Acceptability Integration Model),determines key factors which affects early elder people using smart phones, and validates the hypothesis of the model by empirical study and model regression. In addition, the thesis designs an evaluation system for smart phone usage for early elder people and makes a comprehensive assessment. This pinpoints the key features and principles for the design of smart phones for early elder people. Therefore, the thesis provides the principles and strategies to the manufactures and R&D of smart phones so that products friendly to early elder people can be designed. The thesis presents the method, conclusion and achievement in the following:(1)It adds the acceptance study to the research on user experience of smart phone for early elder people and proposes the user experience model "PUA"(Perceived Usability and Acceptability Integration Model). The thesis summarizes and analyzes the contents and scopes of the research on user experience. It proposes "PUA",a key model for the user experience study based on the features of early elder people and smart phones and survey from the empirical study."PUA" includes two parts, perceived usability and acceptance. In order to verify these two hypotheses, the thesis designs a structured questionnaire for key elements in the model and gathers data from the real world. Then,it analyses the data statistically and verify the relation between key elements by APP lying multiple variable regression.Based on the analysis, the thesis explains key factors affecting perceived ease of use, which includes perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use and design features for smart phones, and key factors affecting acceptance, which includes perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use,satisfaction,self-efficacy,job relevance and design features for smart phones.(2)The thesis proposes an evaluation system for early elder people to use smart phones by APP lying the entropy method based on key factors of "PUA" model, and provides a comprehensive assessment. It presents the evaluation index and measurement index based on definition and relation of factors in "PUA",and proposes an evaluation system for the user experience of early elder people to use smart phones, thus providing a hierarchical model for the comprehensive assessment and analysis. The thesis also APP lies the entropy method and AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process)to search coefficients for the index of each level relative to the target level, which provides the foundation for the comprehensive assessment for user experience of smart phones for early elder people based on“PUA”model. In addition, the thesis computes and sorts coefficients of smart phone features based on the comprehensive assessment, determines the most significant factors for acceptance, perceived usability and smart phone features that have double effects,e.g.," character design feature","performance feature(support for sustained use)".The acceptance and perceived usability of smart phones will be effectively improved for early elder people if the above factors received more attention.Besides, the thesis proposes design principles which make it friendly for early elder people to use smart phones. These will become guidelines for R&D of smart phones so that their acceptance and usability by early elder people are improved.(3)The thesis provides assessment for 3 smart phones based on user feedback from early elder people, and proposes 2 new designs based on the result of assessment The first one is a text reading design on smart phones.I design an eye movement experiment to determine that character size of "Median" is the most suitable for early elder people to read texts on P3 smart phone. The second is a new UI design based on the information input method.I propose a complete pipeline for the design of user experience and bring principles that makes smart phone suitable for early elder people to mobile UI design. In addition,I verify that user experience for early elder people is improved by the proposed information input method by A/B UI comparison. This thesis focuses on the model and methods to improve user experience for early elder people to use smart phones in the world rapidly moving toward information-based society. It determines the key factors to design smart phones based on the systematic research on user experience, and proposes principles for manufactures and R&D of smart phones in order to make them easy to use for early elder people. The thesis concludes with the expectation that smart phones can be made better and easier to use for early elder people benefiting from the proposed contributions.
