The cultural classics compiled during Qianglong Period play a significant role in constructing the unified multi-ethnic country.Among these cultural classics, there are Qin Ding Ba Qi Manzhou Shi Zu Tong Pu(????????????),Qin Ding Jin Shi Guo Yu Jie(?????????),and Qin Ding Manzhou Yuan Liu Kao(?????????),which are contributive to the construction of Manchu ethnic genealogy of the Qing Empire. While due to the limitation of the age,for lack of comparative linguistics and the Manchu language, the construction and study of Manchu ethnic genealogy are defective and incomplete. For this reason, starting from the research of clan and genealogy, this dissertation mainly focuses on the Manchu ethnic genealogy and the origin of some famous Manchu surnames in the region of White Mountain and Black Water(????).Apart from the introduction and conclusion, this dissertation consists of four chapters. The first chapter discusses“Jurchen”and“Manchu”in the Manchu ethnic genealogy.First,we will examine the process of migration and the formation of Jianzhou Jurchen(????).Following that is a careful analysis of the descendants of Balhae. In this part,we try to prove the common origin of peoples of Manchu and Mohe, combining with the analysis of phonology, morphology, and relevant historical material, and discuss the meaning of“?”(big)and“?”(bow).Besides that,we investigate the narrow sense of Sushen(??)and the corresponding phonetic relation with Jurchen, and analyze the semantic generalization of Sushen and the different semantic levels of Jurchen.Chapter Two first discusses the origin and development of Aisin Gioro(????),the surname of the imperial family in Qing Dynasty. For the reason that Aisin Gioro is a branch descended from Gioro(??),this chapter examines and compares the relationship between Gioro,Jiawen shi(???)and Jiagu bu(???)in Jin Dynasty.Meanwhile, from the perspectives of culture and language interaction between Manchu and Han(?),we argue for the co-relationship among Gioro,Tong(?)and Tongjia(??).And we also comb through the origin relevance between Dong e shi(???)and Jurchen's Shuhu shi(???)in Jin Dynasty. With the evidence from phonetics, semantics, culture, and historical geography,we trace Shu hu shi(???)and Tieli bu(???)of Heishui Mohe back to an ancient tribe named/*t??k/.At the end of this chapter,we attempt to explore Gioro and Shuhu shi's common origin.Chapter three attempts to explore the surname of the imperial family of Jin Dynasty,Wanyan(??),employing phonetics, meaning, and origin, arguing that this surname Wanyan shares a common origin with,Fucha(??)and Bohai(??).This chapter is also engaged in solving the following hard nuts:the state name of Dong Xia(??)and Puxian Wannu(????);the surname Li(?)taken by Mohe and Wanyan;the Manchurian's worship of“?”(willow). We also investigate the formation and destination of the seven tribes of Mohe.In the last part of this chapter,we move onto the migration of the clan of Suwan Guwargiya(??????),discovering the location of“????”(the place of Suwan). We also argue that the original meaning of Guwargiya is“net”in the Manchu language, and the surname originated from the river's name Huhan(???).Chapter four continues to explore the origin and development of some famous Manchu surnames.First of all, with the perspective of duo-Chinese-foreign culture-system within the region of White Mountain and Black Water(????),we analyze a series of names of related peoples, such as Woji(??),Wuzhe(??),Wudiha(???),Wudige(???),Wuzhe(??),Wudigai(???),which all have the sense of“forest”,and discuss a series of relevant surnames and names of tribes among the Manchu,Jurchen and Mohe people.Besides that, this paper explores the Manchu surname Wendu(??)and Jurchen's surname Wendun(??)from the angle of phonetics and meaning, and their relation of Yilou(??)in terms of the clan. From this point forward, this paper explores the phonetics of the names of Yilou,Yuli(??),Yulou(??),Nivkh(???),and their geographical distribution. Finally, this paper not only explores the origin and development of Nala shi(???)but also unveils some surnames of Khitan(??)source in Jurchen-Manchu,as well as their meanings.
