“The Shi Ben’s Surname chapter” record a total of 126 Pre-Qin ancient family surname, including ancient family surname of Lu, Wei, Jin, Zheng, Qi, Song, Chu, Zhou, Chen and other countries, covering the main ancient family surname of Pre-Qin Period countries. In addition to the minority family surname belongs to Mao Panlin’s fault plagiarism, or just loaded in the surname books, most ancient family surname contained in this article not only surname books loaded, also can be confirmed by historical records and ancient writing materials. It is in line with the actual situation of the Pre-Qin family surname, provably exists in the Pre-Qin Period.The Surname chapter on the ancient family surname’s record reflects the differences between the surname and the family surname. Most family surname’s ancestor can be exactly traced back and it is changeable and hierarchic. However, some surname has been unable to trace back to a common ancestor and it is usually fixed and unified. The system of using grandfather’s style name as the family surname is not the custom, it is just a kind of with style name as the family surname. Because of the Zhou Dynasty people has certain taboo system for the name of the ancestors, with a name as the family surname is stricter restricted than by style name for the family surname, and with the father’s name as a family surname is not exist.The Surname chapter on the ancient family surname’s record reflects the political situation of countries in the Spring and Autumn Period. During the Spring and Autumn Period, the Royal Clan played an important role in the political stage of Lu, Wei, Zheng, Song, Chu, while in Qi and Jin, mainly other clan took the state power. Most of family surname of Lu, Wei, Zheng, Song and Chu contained in the Surname chapter are Royal Clan, the situation is especially obvious in the state of Lu and Song. Relative to Lu, Song and other countries, the family surname of Jin and Qi contained in the Surname chapter are mainly other clan. The non-Royal Clan of Jin including Ji ying, Si gong and so on, while the non-Royal Clan of Qi mostly come from Chen. It proves that several non-Royal Clans wield state power in Jin, while mainly Chen wields state power in Qi.
