Self-Talk:The Communication Dilemma In Contemporary Chinese Provider-Patient Disputes

At present,the spread and sharpening of provider-patient disputes is the macro-context of communication between providers and patients in China.The communication skills,communication process,and communication effects among medical institutions,doctors,patients and their families are regarded as the microscopic communication context.Based on the micro-context of doctor-patient communication,this study conducts a concrete analysis of the predicament and helplessness in doctor-patient communication through the participatory observation in the doctor-patient office of C hospital,and communicated with doctors and patients through rooted first-hand information.Negotiations,third-party mediation and other means to break the "wall" hindering doctor-patient communication have been comprehensively introduced and objectively evaluated.Furthermore,a number of typical cases have been explored on how the doctor-patient disputes will be solved by communication and negotiation across the healthy ditch between them and work together to build a bridge to repair their deteriorating relationship and rebuild the trust between them.In addition,the thesis also explores the diversity and variability of the identity of both doctors and patients in this dilemma of communication.The doctors and patients understand each other and sometimes become arrogant.The relationship between doctors and patients changes from strangers to acquaintances,and then to enemies.While presenting the diversified changes in the identity and roles of both doctors and patients,it also provides the coexistence state of "you have us" and "we have you" between doctors and patient,and then "we are all ordinary people.“We are all ordinary people”,so “we” need and cooperate with each other.“Ordinary people” refers to the super group identity of “we + them” in the study,and the doctors and patients are included in the super group identity.Among the ordinary people,it is trying to alleviate the embarrassment of self-talk highlighted in the communication between doctors and patients.This study attempts to provide some reference for practitioners and researchers in the prevention and treatment of contradictions between doctors and patients in the future,and to provide a new way to construct a new model of contradiction between doctors and patients and to achieve a harmonious relationship between doctors and patients.
