Objective:To investigate the effects of Yi Shou Er Sheng Particle (YSESP) on hyperlipidemia with different TCM types, whereby to provide the guide of clinical application of YSESP. Methods:40 SD rats were randomized into 4 groups and 10 rats in each group:normal diet control (NC), high fat diet control (HFDC), fluvastatin group (positive control), YSESP group. The parameters were blood lipids (TC, TG, LDL-C, HDL-C), epididymal fat (eFat) weight, liver weight, eFat index and liver index. In clinical investigation,80 cases meeting the diagnostic standard of hyperlipidemia were divided into 4 groups and 20 cases in each group:phlegm-damp group, spleen and kidney yang deficiency group, dual deficiency of qi and yin group, and qi stagnancy and blood stasis group, according to visiting sequence and design method of random positive control. To investigate the variation of blood lipids and clinical symptoms in different syndromes treated with YSESP. Results:In animal experiment, YSESP reduced the fasting blood TC, TG levels significantly, accompanying with rising body weight, eFat weight, liver weight and liver index. In clinical investigation, YSESP reduced blood lipids significantly, lowering TC, TG and LDL-C, raising HDL-C, especially significant in cases with dual deficiency of Qi and Yin syndrome. YSESP also ameliorated the clinical symptoms of hyperlipidemia cases, especial of dual deficiency of Qi and Yin group. Conclusion: YSESP has the convincing effects of lowering blood TC, TG, LDL-C, with the tendency of raising HDL-C. The possible mechanism of lowering TG may be inhibition of the release of free fatty acid (FFA) from adipose tissue, and promoting the depot of overflowed FFA in adipose tissue. The possible mechanism of lowering TC and LDL-C remains unclear. There are required further studies that YSESP can decrease the blood sugar and sclerosis in hyperlipidemia cases, indicating the potential treatment application of YSESP against insulin resistance and artery sclerosis. The clinical investigation also shows YSESP has the better effects on lipids reduction and amelioration of clinical symptoms in the cases with dual deficiency of Qi and Yin syndrome, comparing to the other type syndromes. In spite that YSESP takes effects on all type syndromes. The finds of this study show lights in the treatment of hyperlipidemia cases with the syndrome of dual deficiency of Qi and Yin.
