There has always been a conflict between the design concepts that the architects try to express and the real feelings of the people who use the buildings.Often such a phenomenon occurs that a building considered to be excellent, but its real use effect is not satisfactory or only meets the basic needs of use,but can not meet the psychological needs of users. Therefore, there is a thought-provoking question: problem lies in the designer or the users? In the 1980s,this issue began to attract the attention of Western architects, environmental behaviorists, and environmental psychologists.Post-occupancy evaluation is an emerging discipline based on this background. It is devoted to studying the relationship between the built environment and the users and their effects, and has been widely applied to actual construction projects that have been built and put into use for a period of time.In China, the rapid increase in the population of large cities, the rapid construction market and the urban construction problems caused by the rapid urbanization process have not only led to huge losses in the economy, environment and energy, but also led to the sharp decline in the use of effects and space experience. Therefore, research and implementation of Post-occupancy evaluation of buildings is a necessary strategy to prevent these situations from continuing to deteriorate. However, the existing Post-occupancy evaluation lacks an evaluation system that includes assessment indicators, methods, process and evaluation criteria that are relevant to the user's subjective experience.Among the existing Post-occupancy evaluation methods, the methods for obtaining subjective experience of users mainly rely on sociological research methods, such as field surveys, interviews, and questionnaire surveys. The shortcoming of these methods is that the conclusions are relatively subjective and cannot achieve quantitative analysis results like the quality of the indoor physical environment. In addition, the ultimate goal of Post-occupancy evaluation is to propose a direct and effective solution after the problem is discovered. This requires a more analytical approach and tools from the perspective of architecture itself. In this study, the object of evaluation is defined as public buildings after modernist architecture.A lot of research on space proves that space is closely related to people's behavior, and behavior is one of the important factors that affect subjective experience. At present, one of the most successful methods and tools for studying the relationship between space and human behavior in the field of architecture is space syntax, whose core principle is spatial configuration theory. This study attempts to continue to explore the relationship between spatial configuration and human subjective experience, and thereby define the evaluation criteria of subjective experience.First of all, from the perspective of psychology and environmental behavior, the subjective experience are analyzed into five feelings based on the sense of safety, identity, belonging, sense of field and direction, which are summarized by the theory of spatial configuration. The spatial characteristics of positive and pleasant feelings, and the analysis of specific methods of spatial syntax are analyzed. Then, some spatial features reflected by the five feelings were verified in the actual investigation of Tsinghua Science and Technology Building, and finally the verified theory was applied to two practical cases. Finally, based on the existing Post-occupancy evaluation system,a system of subjective experience evaluation methods including index system, specific process steps, research and analysis methods, and evaluation conclusions is established. The system is incorporated into the existing Post-occupancy evaluation system. In the framework of the system, the content, methods and techniques of Post-occupancy evaluation are improved.
