During the large-scale construction in China,excessive pursuit of growth and unreasonable development have led to low utilization rate and poor quality of overmuch space,which has been reestablished not through its whole life cycle.The root cause is the contradiction between space quality and fulfillment of usage demands.Primary school is the first phase of cultivating talents for the society and extraordinary emphasis should have been put on its development.However,urban primary schools are faced with numerous problems such as obsolete buildings,outdated facilities,insufficient land use and scattered space that have not been worked out effectively.Over standardization and homogenization of teaching environment result in a loss of students' vitality and autonomy,not adapting to the transition of new educational concepts and demands of quality-oriented education.The urgent issue that needs to be solved at present is how to establish a highly comprehensive school space which accords with practical teaching requirements and completely respects students' subjectivity.By adopting the assessment method from post-occupancy evaluation science,it helps to find the existing problems and put forward responding solutions,which will be advantageous to the healthy development of urban primary schools' space environment construction.Based on literature analysis related to the space construction of Urban primary schools and investigation analysis of pupils' intramural movements,the research restricts its range in representative Urban primary spaces such as classrooms,corridors,stairs,lobbies,courtyards,squares and playgrounds,taking relevant domestic design references and the requirements of pupils' mental,physical and behavioral developments to the school construction as basic research.The primary process of the research can be divided into three phases including preliminary work,implementation and analysis process and making conclusions.In the preliminary work,based on thorough analysis of relevant research that adoptspost-occupancy evaluation theory at home and abroad,the research selects two representative investigation objects named Foshan Qiandenghu primary school and Nanhai central elementary school,reasonably forming post-occupancy evaluation approaches of Urban primary schools and factors collection of satisfaction evaluation about primary school space on the basis of exploratory research results comprised of the applicability of school space,characteristics of space culture,scenery senses of space,facilities,security,capabilities development of students and quality training to finish the structural questionnaire design.In the implementation and analysis process,the research makes a type division of two schools and seven spaces,analyzes and summaries the success inspiration of each space and common existing problems from the way of space usage and degree of satisfaction respectively,and emerges the overall satisfaction evaluation of two schools.Finally,based on the research above,the principles of design patterns of primary school space is concluded with exploring a responding solution to the problems.Thus feasible space design patterns of Urban primary school emerge,which will be an effective reference to improve the present space environment and a significant reference to future school design.
