A Comparative Study Of The Morphology Of Urban Blocks From The Cross-culture Perspective

Since the 20 th century,the discourse system of global urban planning has been built on the basis of western urban planning theories.Based on the background of cultural choice in the context of globalization,cultural differences and conflicts are unavoidable topics.As the basic unit of urban material space,urban block is the basis of the healthy operation of a city.In order to realize the comprehensive sustainable development of economy,society and ecological environment,it is of great significance to study the corresponding urban blocks.The urban block morphology is formed by many factors,such as the material space form,functional organization structure,regional historical development and so on.Therefore,excavating the thoughts,culture and values of urban block space and sketching the historical track of urban block development will help us to understand the social development and evolution process more deeply,and can enrich the connotation of urban block and the theoretical system of block research.This research aim s to build a theoretical framework for the comparison of block morphologies.It adopts the method of cross-cultural comparison to comprehensively analyze the characteristics,advantages and disadvantages of various morphologies in the process of the origin,development and evolution of blocks,with the main purpose of exploring the relationship between the internal mechanism and external performance of block morphologies.This paper takes the general knowledge of culture as the clue,starts with the discipline of urban design,and grasps the characteristics of block morphology under different cultural backgrounds from the perspective of urban morphology and typology through the control of the real environment and the sorting and analysis of a large number of historical documents and materials.Based on the deep structure and comparative perspective of cross-cultural comparative study,this paper integrates the dimensions related to urban design,and establishes the cross-cultural comparative research framework of urban block morphology.In view of the various dimensions of cross-cultural comparison of urban block morphology,this paper focuses on the ecological structure and manifestation of different cultures,and from a broader political,economic and cultural perspective,conducts in-depth research from three aspects: the purposeful comparison of block morphology concept orientation,the complexity comparison of block morphology paradigm differences,and the perceptual comparison of block morphology spatial order.This paper firstly explores the different purposes of the formation of block morphology under the guidance of different concepts,based on the view of nature,aesthetics and ethics.From the perspective of philosophy,it then discusses the habitability,enjoyability and territoriality of urban block morphology,cross corresponding different concepts and purposes,and combs the profound influence of culture formed in the process of urban historical development on block morphology,so as to provide a broad vision for the study of urban block.Secondly,based on the specific social system and cultural system,this paper summarizes and analyzes the block morphology,reveals the law of the change of block morphology,and pursues the essence of urban block morphology differences.From three aspects of power motivation,capital motivation and political motivation,the dominant reasons for the differences of urban block morphologies under different cultural backgrounds are compared.According to the extensio n of time and space,it then compares the dimensions of urban block morphlogy differences under different cultural backgrounds from the perspectives of geographical breeding,intergenerational choice and temporal and spatial infiltration in view of spatial position,time axis and communication chain.Meanwhile,according to the different emphasis of culture,this paper compares the inner logic of the urban block morphology differences,and points out the morphlogy differences hidden behind the culture.Finally,this paper uses the quantitative methods such as spatial syntax,spatial economics and central place theory,according to the characteristics of block space diversity,taking typical urban block morphologies as the representatives,and carries out the perceptual comparison of spatial order of urban block morphology from three aspects: the sense of spatial logic,the sense of spatial enclosure and the sense of spatial wholeness.By summarizing the basic laws,it is clear that under the influence of different cultures,urban block morphology will present different results of spatial morphology perception.This study is committed to the overall thinking on the comparison of urban block morphologies.And the comparative study of urban block morphology from the cross-cultural perspective can promote the complementarity,mutual evidence and mutual vision of block construction under different cultures,and connect theoretical research and practical analysis,which has practical significance for the sustainable and healthy development of urban blocks.
